I installed my new King main bearings in my block and checked the clearance against my crank (stock forged) and I only have .0020" on three journals and .00019" and .00018" on the others. The block was honed and its dead on specs, crank has been polished, but it only has .0001"-.0004" wear after beaing polished.
How would be the best way to handle this? I was hoping to get at least .0025".

what are you using to determine these clearances?

A micrometer, a dial bore gauge and a calculater.
I've even got my machinist to come over last nite and check it. Still tight.

Dave, Its a drag race only engine (440) and a solid cam. If it was a street engine, I let'er eat. I just think its too tight for a bracket engine.

.002-.003 is in spec. I'd say your fine. tighter tolerances mean you can run a lighter weight oil. I bet today's new engines run tighter then that!

you could have an error of .0001 - .0002 if there was a spec of dust or something when you measured.

We don't run anything looser than .002 and never had a problem with bearings being too tight on street, drag or circle motors. I sure wouldn't worry about your readings. BTW

Brian,

What were the actual crank main dimensions?

Bob, what does the hxn stand for? The X is .001" OS. Do you or anyone else know if 1) King has std.X mains 2) how does King fit compared to Clevite 77, tight? Or will Clevite Std. be the same problem?

Yes, phone has been a little silly lately. It reached 40 degrees and now everyone thinks their engine should be done...lol
