Car looks great!! I think it would be cool to let her have that car. Then you guys can share the hobby together. Take the two cars out for cruise nights. Make it a family thing. Can she drive a 4 speed?

...if not, I'll be her chauffeur...

Sorry! That won't be necessary. She can handle it. She has burned them off in a 4speed Hemi Bee before! Not too many guys or girls can say that!

Made some more progress on the car this week. Spent a half day yesterday mounting and installing side markers. Ordered replacement rubbers for the bumper guards and wnd brackets for the bumpers from Laysons. Ordered springs and front end kit from Espo Springs and Things, some instrument needle paint from Dashworx, an A/C drier and a bunch of nuts and bolts from Bill at A&M Hitec. Wife Susan bead blasted parts...but the weather is not quite good enough to fill pits, sand and paint yet. The control arms are done but lots of pits to fill in them as well as the valve covers, oil pan and rear axle housing. I would like to have the car on the ground with the motor in it by end of April. My friend has a dolly for putting motor, trans, etc. in from underneath but he is moving so fast on his Dart GTS convertible resto that it will probably be tied up when I get to being ready...

Repro side markers that I bought thru my Dodge Dealer were not very good. They were basically not glued well, wrong colors and not a complete ready to install restoration package as the OEM would be. It took longer than it should for the work to install side markers. I posted a complaint on the restoration forum but they came out good in the end.

Front are saved originals that I claned, polished and remounted to the bezel. Luckily they were not crazed like old ones get.

Some more progress on the car. Got my new Espo springs and front end kit this week and working on the backing plates, spring brackets and bolts. Also blasted the front spindles and bumper brackets. The rubber for my bumper guards came from Laysons so I installed them. Can you believe I have $1289 in redoing the bumpers!? I could have redone a pair of 1957 Chrysler Imperial bumpers for less than that! I just had to stick with the bumper guards but it added a lot of $$:
$760 rechroming the bumpers shipped both ways, $270 rechroming 4 bumper guards and shipping both ways and $159 for the rubbers

Finally got the rear ready! Spent the last 2 weekends filling pits and sanding on it. My front spring hanger brackets are pretty bad so I am waiting for some new used ones that are supposed to be nice...otherwise, I would have installed it today. I can't wait to get the rear on the ground. My wife spent the afternoon blasting lower and upper control arms so that we can get the front end together next. Motor, trans and front end are going in from underneath.

Here's a view of the front. I don't plan to reproduce any paint daubs or markings.

Looking good John, keep up the good work. $159 for rubbers, guess I haven't bought them in a while, you have a keeper if she can man the blast cabinet.

Rick.

Just got the rear in this weekend. I work slow. Front eye bolts and u-bolts are from Frank Badalson. Should have the brakes on this week. Hope to get the motor, trans and front end in within the month.

Thanks! Got the bumper on tonight. I'm not working on it flat out but it took most of the week to do the brackets, find the bolts, clean and paint things, etc. It took a week just to find some screws that would work and get the reverse bezels together and mounted. This A-Body is way harder for me to put together than a B-Body! I keep telling myself it will be worth it.

Did you use body filler or glazing putty to fill the pits?
I am getting ready to do this. Looks very nice

I used Evercoat Metalglaze. It took a long time because I could only do a small amount of filler at a time. It hardens very fast. I basically had to go over the area of the whole rear end housing twice and then some a little bit at a time, sand and prime. The trick is not to put it on too thick but just barely skin the pit(s) to minimize the sanding.
