Hi,

I have my '71 Charger on a rotisserie and was wondering if it would be worth the effort to do a mini tub while it's up there. The car will have a 440 with the '500hp' build, 3.75 gears, and an auto. It will be mainly a cruiser with Friday nights at the local 1/4 mile 'run what ya brung'.

If you did the mini tub which spring relo kit did you use?

How much wider of a tire were you able to fit in?

Thanks

I am mini tubbing my 64 Savoy so I can install P315 R60-15's. Two issues come up. Exhaust is now custom for the rear section and your diff may need to be shorten to take advantage of the big wheel tubs or a custom back spacing on your rims. I am building a Dana so width is not a biggy for me. With your Charger on the rotissere, now is the time. I cut in a section to the original wheel tub and used the mopar performance kit.

The "look" will be sweet.

Check what wheel and tire combo you want to run, and check for clearance, there is a ton of room built into the tubs already, you just have to play around with backspacing and spring location. I'm running 15x10s without a spring relocation and there is tons of room.

You can basically fit all you want back there in a 71-74 plymouth rear wheel tub, I assume the charger is the same in those years back there. With careful attention to backspacing even a 325/50/15 can fit back there and still have the tire under the body.

Thanks for the feedback. A 325 tire is plenty wide enough for my needs.

Currently running 275/60R15 on stock (4.25 backspacing) 15x8 Steelies on my 71...and there is STILL plenty of room for more tire.

4.5" backspace should fit with no problems at all. As mentioned, with the right offset, 15x10's will probably still fit entirely in the stock wheelwell.
