How hard would it be to take a turbo off like a Cummins Dodge, using what ever possibly could be used, buying only the parts needed.
It would be a Blower type carb with a hat I would imagine..This probably would be cheapest..
Im not trying to set the world in fire, and I know the turbo size is probably small, but would have pretty good spool manors.
This would be a log style exhaust system, maybe headers. Probably use a stock 67 440 engine, steel crank, and stock rods deal...I have a set of open chambered big valve heads, which would put the compression in the 8-9:1 range. I would want this to run on pump fuel.
This would be going into a 94 Full size dodge truck with some 3.23 gears etc...727 TF with 10" converter.
So what does it take?
Does this require a POP valve?
Im not sure how those turbo's oiling routes, But Im sure something can be arranged.
Im looking to do this with mostly junk yard parts.
500HP would be a good goal. I would want decent fuel mileage too, i know its not going to get 20, but would 10+ MPG be obtainable?

A pair of them might work but a single turbo that size will strangle that engine.
A different wastegate would be needed. Those are set so high from the factory that you'd scatter the engine before it opened. My Cummins makes 27 psi.
You're going down the same road I did 10 years ago. It can be done on the cheap with careful parts selection.

Well that is true if he uses the 12 cm factory housing, But the hx35 will push enough air to support 500 hp & still be efficient. They make a larger A/R 18 cm & 21cm that will bolt up to that Holset as long as it's not a hy 35 or the He 351CW. ( Did not state what year / Auto or stick)

I've seen a few dyno charts from mopar FWD guys who've built 2.2/2.4/2.5's to put out 450hp down with a hx35, or maybe it was a hy35, can't remember. But 500hp is easy to build a 440 for without boost, and the combo would be pretty mild. 10.5 compression, eddy rpm intake, cam 230-240 @050 duration, headers and 440source/rpm/big valved + ported stock heads.

i aggree but it is a cheap way to do a turbo and see if you like it enough to up grade after you get it running right. i bought a new garrett ball bearing turbo for a great price you just have to look and find a deal you want to spend the money on

Nothing wrong with a garrett  but there are plenty of chineese no-name turbos on ebay. They are cheap but I've read some posts on some other forums where guys have claimed they didn't even make it through a dyno run before the turbo went kaboom!

my vote is a Borg Warner S400 series turbo can be had new for 75mm for as low as $500 and an 80mm used for 6-800 and both are capable of 1000+hp...thats if you can fit that sized turbo under the hood and i have seen a-body guys do it you just have to be creative and all you need is one

 , but I don't mind buying $120 turbos once a year lol. And if I mess mine up, no big loss.
