Ok, I just received a mailing from the Hamilton Collection about a Die-Cast model they are offering. It is for a superbird....but the more i looked at the more it just didn't look right. They are offering it in Plum Crazy...but thinking back (with a very horrible memory) i can't for the life of me ever remember seeing a purple 'bird. I can't believe a company would make a mistake as big as this....but someone out there tell me if my memory is totally gone or is there such a thing as a plum crazy (in-violet) superbird?

I got the same mailing. No, Plum Crazy was not offered on SuperBirds. If any were ordered with a 999 special paint code, I don't know.

For as much as they got, they got just as much wrong, particularly the color. Plymouth never made a Purple 'bird.

Burnt Orange...3 cars, at one time the Burnt Orange bird was dismissed, but as they came out of hiding over the decades, the myth was accepted as fact,....rumours of In-Violet birds have been around forever, to completely dismiss the exsistance of one is niave, as Superbirds could be ordered 99/999 if the buyer/sales was aware of the procedure for such,.....awhile back it was "carved in stone" that Birds only had 2 color choices for interior, white or black,.....but a B5/B5 interior equipped bird has surfaced over the years,...documented

Never say Never

NO "in violet".

STANDARD colors were:
EV2 - "tor red metallic"
EK2 - "vitamin C metallic"
EW1 - "alpine white"
FY1 - "lemon twist"
FJ5 - "lime light"
EB5 - "blue fire metallic"
&
999/C37D - "corporate blue" / "Petty blue"

I also thougt that there was one built with the darker brown color (like the root beer color). I think it was in a magazine about 10 years back or so. Or maybe its the Burnt Orange I am thinking about.

I believe there are three documented FK5 - "deep burnt orange metallic" Superbirds KNOWN. Could there be other oddities? SURE! Where are they?

Superbird production ended in December 1969 and FM3 was not getting sprayed out of a gun until Feb 1970 .

There were a few Superbirds that left the factory in FK5 (Dark Burnt Orange Poly), but that's the only color from the factory that deviated from the picture above.

There used to be a Burnt Orange Bird around here but it may not have been factory paint...the 440 wore a 6pac set up but the fender tag told a different story...Nice car non the less.

Some of these cars got painted almost as fast as they hit the street... I remember a purple 440-6 4 speed superbird around here back around the late 70s early 80s...I eventually had the opportunity to buy it in 84 {for 2500 bucks and did'nt take it !!! Even had a child seat fastened in the back when I looked at it... }...As it turns out it was a repaint over the original color but everyone thought it was a special order because nobody ever remembered it any other color... This happens alot...
