Please help i need to remove glove box door lock on 70 ralley dash any help .The chrome lock cover has to come off some how? Thanks !!

I think it just pops off but am not 100% on that.

Seriously I know you need the key inserted, there's a slot or hole in the rear, kid usually sticks a paper clip in to release the front lock section from the rear while turning the key at the same time,...she's not home otherwise I ask her, I'll wrestle the things for hurs the kid has it done in 5 mins!

Here's a picture of where the tab that needs to be pushed is.If I remember right key needs to be in lock and turned,with the tab pushed it should just pull apart.

Can't take all the credit.It's a picture I got from my savior years ago when I had the same problem.I forgot who it even was its been so long.
Just always kept the picture.Hope it works for for you.And keep the picture handy because I'm sure it will come up again.

Any way to get these out if you do not have the key that operates the lock? I have several I would like to disassemble.

Once you get the gist of it, you can pop them right out. I found out not all latch mechanisms are interchangeable.

First of all, you do not need the key in order to take the lock a part. You'll have to monkey around with the spring thing on the side, and use a small screw driver on that tab on the side, it will come right apart. Bring it to me and I'll have it apart in a couple of minutes. Untill you figure out the trick, it drive you nuts, maybe even postal. Good luck.

this tab your talking about i see the port just no tab do i force sm screw driver toward the chrome lock cover i see the layout on the lock cylinder on the threads page i just dont se the tab im bout 1/2 blind LOL but w/ glasses and magnifier and very good light i just dont see the tab to "push" down to release the lock cyl thanks guys for all your support on this BY THE WAY I DONT HAVE THE KEY I HAVE ONE THAT FITS IN NICE BUT WONT ROTATE IT I HAVE 3 OF THESE IM TRYING TO GET APART

I CAN'T GET THE CHROME LOCK COVER VERTICAL BECAUSE I DONT HAVE THE KEYS I THINK THATS WHERE THE TAB IS HIDING BY THE PICS POSTED THE COVER IS IN VERTICAL POSITION TO THE LATCH CATCH

I just did mine 5 minutes ago after I rad this post, you have to turn the lock until you see the lock tab then push it down.

DID YOU HAVE THE KEY IN YOURS ? I HAVE AN OLD KEY THAT FITS TUMBLERS IT WILL DISENGAGE THE LATCH BUT WILL NOT OUT IT TO LOCK POSITION THAT IT NEEDS TO BE ( I THINK) TO SSE THIS TAB LIKE I SAID I HAVE 3 NO KEYS AND NO LUCK THANK YOU DAN

Hemi Roy.....I have come to the same conclusion as you. Without lock in vertical position you can not get to the tab. I have 6 or 7 of these glove boxes I would love to get apart. I guess a locksmith is needed if you don't have the key to line up the cylinder.
