Hello all, i will be doing a 440/727 swap into my 318 68 Charger, I have a 8 3/4 with a 741 case. Would I have to change my drive shaft? Or can I reuse the stock one?

As for Motor mounts will I be able to use the same ones? Actually will I be even to use my stock k member? I am on a budget so I want spend the less if possible, I am not going for a complete resto. I am gong for something I can afford.

Your stock K frame will be fine, as will your tranny crossmember, the shaft will need to be shortened, I'll assume you had a 318/904 in there before, you'll need the 727 front yoke with the small u joint, or use a conversion joint if you have a large joint yoke, or find a whole shaft assy, your gonna spend about the same either way,...you'll need BBlk motor mounts/brackets, tranny lines should fit, need to upgrade/change the radiator, if you have the 1 pc kickdown linkage on the BBlk, it will hit the fire wall, you need the 3 pcs set up/bellcrank style, and you'll need to alter the wiring harness to reach the dist/coil leads, water temp sender,....throttle cable should reach a 4 bbl set up, plus the exhaust will need new headpipes, or headers

1 more thing, you say I need a yoke with the small u joint is that the 7260? the 7290 is for the bigger u joint right, so in my case I would need the 7260 yoke? Oh and as for the radiator, I have the 22" because my car had no A/C, But I have have seen 22" online with 3 core and trans cooler, that can handle up to 500hp, would that be ok? or just get myself a 26" but I am worried it wont fit in the housing or support.

Roy the smaller joint will measure about 3" in width, the larger joint will be approx 3 1/2" in width, you have the PN# designations right, but double check measurements regarding the shaft your using, and the yoke you use also, might be easier to get a whole shaft from a member here in the used/wanted parts?,,,,I'd run a 26" 4 row radiator, seen too many guys try and run the smaller rads, no luck, that 440 is gonna put out some heat!,....run a solid fan, and definitely a shroud, you'll have to make the 26" fit by redrilling some holes, or buying the 26 rad support passenger pc off AMD or other vendors, if you want a factory look, and weld it in?,...or do a little nice and clean,..it's up to you

Make sure the BBlk tranny you use has the provisions for the kick down bellcrank and shifter bosses depending on wether you have column or floor shift, as some years of trannies don't have the necessary bosses cast into them,,,Check before you put it in...good luck on your project!

Mike
