Hi all, last year (or maybe it was two years ago) I got my emergency brake mechanism for my 1970 Barracuda re-built by a fella who posts here named Jules Daddio. I'm not griping about Jules as he did a phenominal job on the mechanism. It looks like brand new. I highly recommend him for this type of work. He also does wiper motors, heater boxes, etc.

Anyway, my problem is this: When I press down on the e-brake it acts as if it isn't hooked up. I got it adjusted all the way to where I am almost out of adjustment and I still can't feel it pulling on the brakes shoes. I checked the placement of the brake cables against my brother's 1970 Challenger and they are correct. I know I must be doing something wrong but after looking at the car 4 times over the last two summers I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated.

Are your rear brakes adjusted?

Thanks for the suggestion Stumpy. At first I thought could it really be that simple? I checked and adjusted the rear brakes yesterday and no change.

Then I tried to press down on the e-brake pedal while holding the cable underneath the car. The pedal went to the floor while the cable did not move at all. I guess I must have somehow hooked it up wrong. The next nice day I'll try to figure out the proper way to connect the cable to the e-brake assembly. Thanks anyway.

Have you adjusted the E BRAKES????? The cable assembly has a threaded rod at the juncture where it transitions from a single cable to a split cable (one to each side), you have to tighted the nut on the rod until the adustment is correct.

Yes, I adjusted the nut on the part where it goes from one cable to two cables. I did this when I first installed the e-brake assembly. The adjustment went WAY past where it was originally and the brake still never gets tight. I'm going to try again this weekend. Thanks for the help.

Got your shoes on the correct way, and are the levers installed where they belong?

Thanks for the help guys. I worked on the car for 2 hours yesterday and I finally found the problem. After trying all the suggestions here which included taking off one of the rear tires and drum I decided to look at the shop manual. I noticed in the drawing of the e-brake assembly there is a clamp that holds the cable in place. On the car the clamp was missing. I thought about it for a while and then I remembered I did not send the clamp to Jules Daddio. Finally, and very luckily, I found the clamp and clamped down the emergency brake cable, then adjusted it and it finally works again. I guess I had a brain fart when I installed it. Thanks again.
