i just bought a 5a,from that same guy who sold the 6al on ebay,it was his last one.auction#110483908534,he says he still has the mopar performance catalog saying the new 6a and 6al are direct plug in for chrome orange and gold box. there must be a bunch of these still lying around somewhere,i wonder if they made the 7al direct plug in too,he said he is printing out the page from the mp catalog.i am glad to hear its direct plug in.the question now is what to do with my ballast resister wires, hook a 4 pin ballast or connect together, the two tops and the two bottoms or leave empty???????i know that with a msd 6 series cd ignitions you dont need to run a ballast, what do i do?

I remember seeing one of these units is a story that Richard e-berg put together back in the late 80s...as I recall, the plug is the same, but the wiring is NOT the same as a stock mopar ECU...

FYI I just connected both sides in parallel on a high miles 4 terminal ballast & ended up w 1.1 ohms

wow 7c,that box has the same color and casing as the ramcharger setup,i bet its the same except the r-c had no autotronics sticker(i think)and instead had a mopar part.nr.and again, wow that square rev limiter is cool,i have a few of the cyliner shape ones,is the square type older /made before the cylinder shape models?if you want plug in, the 6c on the bag was 80$ yesterday,no bids.multiple discharge.4prong ballast.i wish i had a gold 7c.

wow, what a bunch of info... I forgott to check this thread latelly

Trying to get all the info and doubts on one same reply .

Ok we do have MSD 5C, MSD 6C and MSD 7C where:

5C like regular MP units so direct replacement ? does it call capacitive ? ( non multispark ? )

6C like the tipical MSD multispark

and 7C ? whats the diff ?

so we have also those MSD 6A and 6AL ( non limiter and limiter ) but are these modified or did they come with the 5 pins setup ?

and another doubt is... ballast still will need to be on the system or not ?

Do these units need still to be chassis grounded ?

Ok I noticed differenced between both MSD auctions 110477889585 and 110483908534

first one beside is a 6AL ( limiter option ) does have the 5pins conector on right side

the 6A unit ( non limiter ) has the conector at left side

Modified ? Originally offered ?

MP PN he provides on first auction is the actual the MP multispark black box

The following is from the Ramchargers 1980 catalog...

MSD-5C $49.95
MSD-6C $99.95
MSD-7C $169.95

All have Chrysler pentagon connector, and will take a 4 or 5 pin version. I actually got ahold of a MSD-6C off the internet last year still in the original box. I did make a shock base and installed it in my 70RR, works fine.

Just my $0.01..

so you say they all would work 5-6-7C with only 4pins connected and a 2prong ballast?

I am running a Blaster II coil, 0.25 Ohm ballast resistor (2 terminal) and the MSD-6C..

Note that I previously installed the OE Chrysler electronic distributor, OE harness and Orange box combo. When I got the MSD-6C, I took out the Orange box and installed the MSD.
Plug & play, in my 70RR..

Just my $0.01..

I ran my msd 6c without the ballast resistor.

ok.....msd 5 series and Chrysler ignitions are inductive discharge.

msd 6 7 series are capacitive discharge i think this is true with the old 5c 6c 7c

if you google inductive ignition vs capacitive you will see the pros and cons of each system.go to this interesting article www.chevyhiperformance.com/...inductive...ignitions.../index.html

as far as for the for what i bought,it is msd 5300,which is the msd 5200 5 series high perf inductive.it was called the 5300 cause it was made for chryslers only with the plug.he had it listed as a 6a,he was wrong.i emailed the guy who bought the 6al,and offered him more than double what he paid,i want have and test both systems....now if we can find out they made a 7al with direct plug in that wood be cool, who has the mopar performance catalog from the early to mid 90's .....

I have had a few "5" series ones... put onto a Sun scope the multiple sparks pon teh raster screen is a weird pattern... never knew they made these in a 6 or 7 series... I had my last one on my 83 D 250 pickup til it died.
so now I have a Jacobs to put on in its place.

I had an old 404BC box with a 5 pin connector and it ran great until one day it just quit.I called MSD and they said they don't rebuild them anymore
