Yep, just cut them apart and reweld them. I have it done often.
Steel wheels are cut up and widened or changed often too.

That said, the 1 piece wheels sold for the older cars usually do come in offsets made close to work (since so many people use them of course) but if you wanted to really squeeze in the max size or what not, measuring the car (both sides) and having the wheels made to suit can do that. (Or if the car is lowered and off the shelf offsets rub, 2 piece wheels can get moved a 1/2",etc to give you the room you need)

If you are just going to run a common size and not worried about the max that will fit that's another thing I suppose.

OZ helped me get some Boyd Codding Smoothie IIs custom built. They're 18 x 8 and 18 x 10.
Tires are Nitto NT555 in 245/45-18 front and 295/45-18 rear.
My wheels were made with an extra thick mounting pad to clear the big brakes. Cars with more common or stock brakes can get away with normal mounting pads. That would give the wheel a 1-1/2" deeper look. They're awesome in a deep dish.

Look at the picture of the front wheel between the center hub and the rotor. You can see the seam where the extra material was added. The lug nuts are the tall chrome spline drives and don't even reach the outside of the wheel center. That will give you an idea of how much farther back the spokes would be. It would be killer on a muscle car.

Another bonus is having the valve stem behind a spoke of the wheel. You don't see it from the outside. That makes for a much cleaner appearing wheel with more of a custom look. The stem is easy to reach even with the monster brakes in there.

We are brothers and sisters doing time on the planet for better or worse. I'll take the better, if you don't mind.

Speaking of Boyds....how about some old school ones ?
I picked these up a little bit ago and had them polished, my wheel guy said these were the very first of the Boyd billet (not cast) series "big" wheels, they are 18"
He guess they were from about '94 or 5

(came out pretty good after the polishing)

Aren't they just the cutest little things?

I've really been slacking on the hot rod. I've had the big rear brakes for several years and haven't done anything more than let them collect dust on the closet shelf.

My shop is done except for the sheet rock. Hopefully, I'll get off my duff and do something about them soon.

I haven't had the cash to play with the hot rod but I'm planning on doing a little spending in February. Maybe it'll see the street again soon.

What rim sizes (ie width/ rear offsets ) are you using?

Ozhemi/Cnxt et al:
Well I'm commited to this thing now as I sold the 15x7 rallyes. I got a couple more questions:
-Can I mount a 285-45-18 on a 18x9 wheel or do i need an 18x10 wheel?
-any problem with a 275-45-18 on a 18x9 wheel?
-The torq thrust wheels I'm looking at are advertised as not 'hubcentric". How do mount them concentric?
- I got a dr diff brake setup with 11.7" rotors/wilwood calipers front and 10.7" cobra set up in the Back. I had no issues with the rallyes. Any problems with clearances with the bigger wheels and those type brakes?
Appreciate the help

Non-hubcentric wheels will have tapered seats for conical lugnuts. I think a 9" wheel could mount either of those tires ok, check out the tire mfr's website, they will have published specs with recommended wheel widths for a given tire.

Yep, a 9" wheel will be fine for either of those sizes. The larger size shows (for a Pirelli P Zero at least) as to suit a wheel width of 9" - 10.5", and the 275 will be great as well, I have used that size on 9's (and 10's) a bunch of times in the past.

As mentioned, the non-hub centric wheels just center off the lug nuts, no problem there...all the 2 piece wheels we use at least are the same way and have no issues at all.

I can't see a caliper issue either. Feets had the issue because of the very large body of the AMG caliper combined with the shape of the spoke he wanted in the Smoothie II.

I have a flat spoked wheel going on my Torana for instance that where made from the begining to go on road race cars with large caliper so does not need the deeper mounting pad like Feet's.
But with "normal" sized calipers it's not really an issue in most cases.

(Here is mine on the rear...an 18 x 10)

Here is the Mustang Bullitt rim on my B body. These rims are 17x8 with 5.72 BS. They clear a 13 inch rotor with a Viper caliper. The 235/55 tire looks good on a B body car and clears everything without any bodywork.

255/45/17 fronts, on 17x8 w/4.5" bs (I'm 99% sure on the bs)
295/45/18 rears, 18x9s, 5.9"bs + 7/16" wheel spacers (and longer studs for proper lug engagement)

I have the stock ebody spring location, and ride height (more or less).

How much of a stiffer/ bumpier ride do you get withe 17's ?
Because of the shorter profile ?

I didn't notice much change with mine. I did manage to keep a tall tire still which certainly helps. I did notice it was more responsive and held up on its wheels better through the average corner versus the old 15s.

I have my front bars cranked down at least an inch. Used to rub with my ol, taller tires.

Goody, I just calculated it out and realized there's insignificant difference in the 235-60-15 I have in the front now and the 245-45-17 you are using. The 4.75" rear offset keeps the c/l of the wheel in the same place and overall height is 25.6".... the 235-60-15s are 26", so the 17s are 3/8" wider and 3/8" shorter.... When all else fails do the math.
Are you using the rear spacers for asthetics or to provide extra clearance on the inside?
Sorry for all the questions, but i want to get this right
Glenn C
