Other than the "Made in Canada" and the pt.# stamping on the base,no difference. All done with the original tooling.

Over 10 years ago when they came back out with the 3418717 6 pack aircleaner that was NS-1, they were produced with the original Fram tooling that was re-activated.
These were pretty rough pieces especially the lids which had edges that would almost be considered jagged.
I was told that tooling was retired to Versitube because it needed too much maintenance to continue.
Dont know if it was refurbished and used again for the current offering but I do know there are differences in where the front shield is spotwelded on as compared to the originals.
Also first run originals on all production cars were enamel right over bare steel with the Made in Canada and part number. The current ones are powder coated and as mentioned dont carry the stampings.
No good old orange peel like the originals.

Unless they were retooled again after 1971, the MP base has one very significant difference that sets it apart from an OEM part. The notch in the base.... original parts have a small notch on the front just to passenger side, the MP piece has an even larger notch towards the driver's side of the car. I assume so it can clear a small block upper radiator hose, despite having never been originally offered on a small block car.

If no one posts a pic of the two side-by-side, I'll take one... I have both at home.........

Well, I did find this one here at work of my '70 v-code Charger R/T.......

You'll notice the notch on the passenger side for the "clearance" for the distributor..

click on the attachment link for a bigger photo where it's clearer...

The current MP '70 Six Pack Air Cleaners no longer has the big notch on the baseplate (drivers side). Someone before me at MP had the bright idea to make this change for the five guys in the whole running A/C on a 440 6 BBL. We changed the tooling back to the O.E. 1970 spec in 2001.

Hey, the base I bought from MP a year or two ago has NEITHER the A/C notch (which was obviously wrong) or the distributor notch.....I don't think my original has the distributor notch either....

'70 Ramcharger equipped 440-6...

I would have sworn I didn't either & agreed with you until I zoomed in on a picture of mine I happened to have on photobucket. There is a 'notch', there on the dist. side. I've only had that thing in my hands about a million times all these years & never noticed it. I'll definitely look at it next time I drive it!

b5440's picture shows the original style notch, and 70 runner shows an even better picture of it. It measures about 3.5 inches by 3/16 inch deep and is on all factory orignal run oval air cleaners, fresh-air and non... 383, 440-4v, 440-6 and Hemi.
