Does anyone have a good suggestion for exhaust manifold spray paint? Im looking for cast iron look with no shine. VHT has a cast iron grey listed good for 1500 degrees. Any good experience out there?

No one has been able to come up with a picture of what it looks like but...

You are supposed to get a factory like finish by dipping the manifolds in gear old and letting it soak in. Let them hang and drip dry for awhile and then heat them up with a torch to burn off the oil. This is supposed to season the manifolds and keep them from rusting. If a small area does start to rust over time, you can apply more oil to that area.

Im sure that would work, but I just want to know if there is a preffered spray bomb that peoople like and how well it holds up.

Sorry - No experience with spray cans. I did use the brush-on Eastwood manifold paint with good results. I media blasted and cleaned the manifolds thoroughly and brushed on with a foam brush as recommended. I was also able to touch up an older set that had been treated the same way. I wire brushed them on the car and applied more paint. It blended in fine after a running a bit.

I have used the VHT nu cast, cast iron colored exhaust manifold paint on all 3 of our cars and it holds up pretty well. The only problem I have had is that it slightly discolored when my engine started to run lean and run at a higher than normal temp which just made the paint get a whitish tint to it almost like it had oxidized or had calcium deposits on it from washing down the engine.

I did think about using the eastwood stuff, but I have used it in the past and always though it looked to thick and hid the cast look. Is the VHT paint called Nu Cast? They called it cast iron grey on their website.

I think for the exhaust manifold paint it was called something like Nucast exhaust manifold paint. Maybe the color itself was called cast iron gray.

Just make sure to get the one that is rated up to 1200 degrees and that is the correct one.

B5: I love the Eastwood stuff. I use the brush on version. It has held up very well. I bake it on with a heat gun. Not in an oven. R U ready for my grill yet? Give me a call!
