The part where the shifter linkage goes snapped off on my 18 spline 833.

To pull it out, do I need to remove the reverse idler shaft? If I do, is there a trick to doing it without the tool shown in the service manual?

thanks

I made one out of a coupler nut and threaded rod or something a few years ago. It has to be pushed out from inside case IIRC.

did that same thing, it is easy to see what the tool in the FSM is doing. Just make one out of 1/2-13 bolt & coupler nut

The tool in the FSM is the same tool that is used for pulling the shift shaft seal on a 904/727 , it's a pain to use though as it slides all over the place

I used a piece of round rod (about 5/8" dia.) about a foot long and bent a 90 in it at a point where it will fit in the case and rest against the front edge with one end touching the shaft. Now its a lever. Lightly hammer the end and it will push out the shaft.
