I have a 2002 PT 2.4 with 60,000 miles. Over the last few weeks, I noticed on two ocassions, tennis ball sized wet/damp spots on my driveway under my PT. I'm assuming its antifreeze since my overflow was a tad bit low and the spots dry up after a day or so. I am 99.9% sure its antifreeze. Definitely not condensation or water by any means, nor is it ps fluid etc.

I've had this PT on my lift running for an hour checking everywhere underneath. I looked all over from the top - hoses, radiator, etc. Nothing.

I've taken off the splash shield and tire to see up there for leaks. I've used mirrors and bright lights, but can't find a drip. I've even looked at where the head meets the block for head gasket leaks - nothing.

I don't have a pressure tester, but I've had it running for over an hour at idle to the point where the fans are on. Its fully hot and pressurized.

Any wierd possibilities? Techs?

Try feeling the spot. Antifreeze will be slippery to the touch.

My wife drives an 02 Cruiser. Had the same problem, even after we put a new waterpump in with timing belt change. Would be ok for a few months then lose a quart or so. Could not find anything. Finally dumped in one of those little bottles of silver powder. Been ok ever since.

You can try looking for the telltale white deposits left by evaporating anti-freeze on the engine, hoses, radiator ect. I had a similar problem on a 98 Neon - topped it off every month or so for almost a year then one of the radiator tubes let go in a big way and problem found. Good thing it was just outside my shop for a tire check... it got tire pressure checked and a new radiator. No leak now. The bad place was hard to see with the radiator installed. Next time I'll try an inspection mirror.

My water pump was leaking between it and the block. I replaced it a couple weeks ago when I did the timing belt and now the pump is leaking again and of course I have to take everything off to get to it. The pump doesn't use a gasket but has a rubber seal. Either way, I could see residue on the block below the water pump.

The other thing could be the overflow bottle. It's on the firewall but the hose goes around to the front of the car on the right side. Maybe you'll get lucky.

I don't see any tracks or signs that there were leaks. The overflow bottle is fine - I replaced one years back on a Neon that had a tiny crack in it, so that was the first thing I was looking for - thanks though .

Like I said, I spent at least an hour under and above it with lights and mirrors with the car running. The car was fully hot and not a drip.

About once a year I notice that the overflow bottle was a inch or so low - maybe a pint if that, so I do refill it - about once a year or longer.

All I am going to do is keep looking for any wet spots under the PT.

I don't know about putting that Bar's Leak stuff in. I fear it clogging something up over the long term. People swear by it though...

Use the Bars Leak Gold which is a small tube of ground ginger root powder and other fine stuff. Only use one tube. (Less than $2.00 at WalMart). There's no metal in it. It will not clog heater cores and was OEM specified on many early GM Northstars due to block porosity. I've used it as a last resort when I absolutely couldn't find very small leaks on several different motors, and it always worked and never clogged anything. Also, it will flush right out during coolant changes.

Frankie, it is the radiator, pretty much bet on it. The tank's o-rings leak and the antifreeze creeps down the sides almost indistinguishable. Will cost you only around $125 or so from Rock Auto.
Check your two speed cooling fan while you are in there.
