I got a 69 Road Runner. It has a 1970 440/727 and 8 3/4 in the back. I have a driveshaft from a 69 (I think - could be a 68) 318 satellite 4 door. The slip yoke is for a 904, though. Can I just buy a slip yoke and change it out? Which one do I need? I also have a 68 Fury 4 door shaft with a 904 yoke. I may be able to pick up a driveshaft from a 70 318 challenger if that could work with a new slip yoke.

Thanks

The problem you have is that the tailshaft on a 904 is shorter than a 727 which makes the 904 driveshaft longer.

In order to make a driveshaft from a 904 trans work with your 727 setup you will have to shorten the shaft, get the correct slipyoke for the 727 and get the correct u-joint for the yoke you have on your rearend. There is a small and large yoke for the 8.75 rears and each will take a different size u-joint on the driveshaft.

someone please correct me if i am wrong, also i think a drive shaft for a road runner is a different length than a superbee of the same year and drive train. driveshaft length for a 1969 road runner with an automatic and 8 3/4 rear is 51.5"

I am not 100% sure if I am right either but I would think that the driveshaft for a 69 superbee would be the same for a RR as they are basically the same car. Unless the superbee is a little longer or shorter than the RR.

ok. found a place that has the 7260 slip yoke.

Does anyone know the length of the '69 Road Runner 440/727 8 3/4 driveshaft? Is the length calculated from the center of the slip yoke to the center of the pinion yoke?

I'm gonna get my 68 4 door driveshaft cut down, but I'm not sure on the measurements at all. I don't know what measurements to give the shop

With the yoke pushed all the way to the trans, the distance from the center of the front yoke to the face of the pinion yoke is 52.5"

Does that sound right?

thanks

as stated before, a 1969 drive shaft that fits a big block auto or manual trans and a 8 3/4 rear is 51.50" measured from the center of the ujoint caps. the type is 7290. the type 7260 is for small blocks. also the length is different for a dodge which would be 52.07. so there is a difference from plymouth to dodge in 1969.

Sorry, macmic. I totally missed that u listed the length. I don't know how I missed that. I brought it to the shop, and -1" for the slip yoke to trans play, it came out to 51.5" like u said.

Sorry again and thanks!

69 Dodge is a slightly longer wheel base, so yes the shaft is a bit longer. 51.5 seems to ring a bell for a 68-70 Plymouth big block with a 8 3/4. I do have a shaft in the garage I pulled from a RR I am parting out. I could measure tomorrow if needed.
