Think of it as a spring, you pull it apart about 1/8", then work the first end into the groove, then rotate around to thread the other coils in.

The fun part is taking them out after realizing that you put 5 of your 8 pistons on backwards.

don't think it matters, have never read anything about direction. i personally stagger the ends of the two.

And when you get through, 2 types of alcohol are almost a necessity. Isopropyl for your cuts and gouges and Ethyl for your nerves and to help you relax.......

i stretch mine out so they are about a 1/4" sprung (heightwise). makes them easier to get in the groove

That works and we take a hard plastic round stock and sharpen the end like a screwdiver(flat) and use it to work the spiral into the groove. You made have to dress up the end once in a while, but it saves finger nails and finger tips and it dosn't damage the lock or piston.

The only bad experience I had with assembling my motor was installing the spirolox. I think I would rather just buy new pistons and rods than try to remove them.

After you bloody up your fingers and destroy the first one you get the hang of ir quick! I had nightmares for weeks after installing my first set.
Yeah, how do you get them out???

some pistons have a machined groove to help get a real thin pick under the tangs on the end of the spirolocs, some don't If yours don't you have to use the pick under the edge of the tang to lift them up high enough and try to get another pick or thin screwdriver blade unde it to help walk them out It takes practice, just like putting them in

Just as Cab said, the outside edges have an undercut radius that allows you to get a pick in there, lift it just enough to get a small screwdriver under it, start working it out with another screwdriver. I think Powerhouse has a tool for install/removal. It also helps to have three hands.

I stretch them so they are at least a 1" long .

They push right in , they don't lose any diameter once they are in the groove .

Never had any cuts or problems.
