Here's the situation:

I pulled an A833 OD unit from an '86(?) 318 2wd pickup this summer. I had the bearing retainer turned down a while ago. I have an old Lakewood bellhousing that I was going to bolt it up to this morning but the lower LH bolt hole seems to be in a location that is 5/16" higher than that of a regular A833. I've got a '68 23 spline with a bellhousing here that I compared it to. The Lakewood bolted up fine to the '68 tranny.

Has anyone run into this before? I had never heard of it.

I think I am going to cut off the threaded mounting tab on the inside of the Lakewood and weld it into a location that works with this OD unit.

Thanks.
Stan

I second that.

Here's a picture I just took. I tried to line the transmissions up so you could see the difference in the bolt holes.

I have this '80 overdrive case with the hole in the correct location. PM me, I'll give you a good deal on it if you want it.

Why don't you just slot the hole in the trans to line up with the one in the bell housing?

Everyone, thanks for the replies!

Stumpy, I ended up slotting the hole in the transmission to line up. I didn't know if I would have enough metal there to do it but it seemed to work out OK. It just seemed more logical to alter this oddball transmission than alter a perfectly good Lakewood.

446acuda, I may take you up on that offer if this doesn't work out. Thanks.

Well, one step closer to completion.

Stan
