I know the factory aluminum 4 speed cases had the floating counter shaft which was a weak link for them but was there any problems with the aluminum tailhousings that anyone knows of?

I hadn't heard or experienced anything but before I sink my time and effort into getting one from the local J/Y I would like to know of anybody else's experiences.

what body ? the only alum i know of factory is A/F body , no experience , that said I'm building an alum a body trans wit hPasson cases.

I don't think the tailhousing is as big an issue as the maincase , the slip fit of the clusterpin causes the problems

I think I found a B/E body extensions that looks aluminum from what I can see.

I would love a passon case but I have too many irons in the fire and have to keep stuff on the cheap when I can.

I am thinking that the tailhousing weak point would be either fractures between the main case and the trans mount or around the bearing area of the tailhousing. Neither of those areas have been a problem that I know of but I would love to see if anyone else had.

If you found an aluminum B/E tail in the yard, GRAB it. It is a RACE ONLY piece. Chrysler never offered any tail (from the factory) in aluminum except the A Body. They never offered a 66-69 B tail in aluminum even for race.

Drop me a PM if you're interested in a reasonably priced, properly prepared aluminum main case. I just happen to have one.

I know that an A/F body alum tail I had was designed to use the small 904 style slip yoke/spline. Were all the A/F alum tails made that way?

There was enough meat for me to open up the bushing and seal bore for 727 sized componants though.

Aluminum A/F-body tails were available in either small or large spline.

Unfortunately, the casting was different, so you can not bore the small version.
