Warning some O/T stuff!!

Went to the first amalagamated Oz Muscle car show today, so there was Fud, GM and Mopar

Thought you'd like to see some of the opposition stuff.

Above: The first 1967 Falcon GT, 289 4bbl, referred to as "Mustang bred"

This was the real Bad boy, the Phase 3 GTHO Falcon, a 351 Cleveland that would trip a genuine 150mph.

The last of the four door Falcon GT's, still a 351 but a bit tamer.

Now some of you love our Mad Max falcon, this was a special release called the Cobra, usually motivated by a 302.

Here's the rear

One of the first really tuff GM's, a 350 Monaro, 1969 i believe..

A later 308 4 door Monaro, this model was never raced.

GM decided to race a smaller car, a Torana GTR XU1, with a 202 cui engine with triple strombergs. Quite a fiery little critter, and what it lost on HP it made up for with tire wear and brakes.

The next GM Torana SLR L34 with a honky 308 V8

The final SLR A9X Torana Hatch, a very potent car, basically cleaned house in the mid 70's.

And yes, Mopar was there, this is a 340 6 pack rat , err.....mice? Nice Charger tho!

Hope you enjoyed the show!

Neat! I think the Aussie Falcons are interesting. Here, in the US, the Falcon ended 1970.5 with the torino body style and optional 429 Cobra Jet. The Falcon line still continues over there - similar to our Taurus, correct?
I have a 1963 1/2 Falcon low mileage original. A guy from Oz wanted to buy it for his Ford collection. However, I told him that he would have to pay for shipping, arrange all the details of delivery, and make sure all the necessary paperwork was in order. I think when he found out what shipping would be, it kind of ended that deal. It's not like I would be shipping over a Dodge Daytona or anything !

Oz: It was at a park in Croydon, didn't see peter there though...

Thanks 69SM, here ya go:!!

This was probably the best car there, a Silver E38 sixpack Charger

A "Chrysler by Chrysler Coupe, he's fabricating roll away headlights for it, a beautiful car

And to finish an unusual item, an early seventies Oz kit car powered by a GM 308, it's called a Bolwell Nagari...........the announcer of the day referred to it as a roller skate , but then he drives a Charger!!

66 Plymouth, Our Falcon is a little bigger than the Taurus, if your taurus is the same as the British one,

Falcon has been the Ford flag leader here since 1963, with Mustangs, Galaxies, and Fairlanes all being released in right steer over here in limited numbers.

No such thing as a locally released Big Block in any make however, although Chrysler did import and convert some Phoenixis with 383's in the 60's.

The latest Falcons are running Supercharged in-line 6 cyl which gets up and mambos, and there is a performance V8 option also.

Our R/T E49 sixpaxk Charger would still do it over the qtr though, not bad for 100 less cubes!!

Mal, just as a matter of interest I went to the Clipsal V8 Super Cars race yesterday, they had the classic race car group on display, one was a E49 Charger 265 Hemi, don't know the engine mods but it has a genuine top speed of 152 MPH recorded at one of the Bathurst race meetings, once again the old Hemi comes out on top.

Damn good show!!!! Thank you for the lesson!

Now, tell me more about the Chrysler coupe!!! Just yesterday I'm sitting at the bar having a beer with Damned67 and his visiting friend Wally talking about such a car. He told me that I'd be hard pressed to find a pic of one, and there you go, posting a really clean one!

I just MIGHT have to have one of those instead of a ute! Darn nice looking car! How scarce are they?

Eric

MAN, I missed another great show and only saw the pics .

Thanks fer the pics MAL. Looks like it was a real good turn out. I like that little Torana. Kinda cool, and of course your car and the Chrysler Coupe. Pretty neat seeing all the differing body styles.

When you decide to quit, THAT is the moment when you would've succeeded..

Mal, that looks like it was a pretty big show! I think Peter is just too busy at the moment to go (containers coming in and going out)
Those C x C's are really cool, I saw a few nice ones around last time I was over.. Mmmmm...could almost imagine one over here eventually

OK, first of all an apology, that silver car is the normal Valiant 2 door Coupe, however it's had the Chrysler by Chrysler (CxC) front grafted on to it.

The Oz Chrysler luxury range....

Really Started with the 65 AP6 V8 , first Oz assembled car to have buckets seats(?) and a tbar console. Looks very similar to your Plymouth Signet.

Then they released the Valiant VIP in 1968, this was effectively a four door Dart, had an extended wheel base, a limousine rear window, extra padded Vinyl roof, integrated Air Con different front grill (in 69 and 70) and came with either a slant or 273 (68) a slant or 318 (69) or a Hemi 245 or 318 (1970) Although quite different in appearance, it was still seen as a "big valaint" so Chrysler went one more step.

In 1972 (?) they released a car with possibly the most pretentious name since "the artist formally known as Prince"

It was a large 4 door luxury model, and to avoid the "Valiant" tag, they called it the "Chrysler by Chrysler" !! (We call it the CxC)

This was a bigger heavier and more luxurious car all round than any Valiant, with the full cats ass as far as appointments, electric seats etc, based around an extended Valiant platform. This car came with either a 265 Hemi or the "new" 360 2 bbl, the Hemi cars having a lower level of appointment generally.

For some bizarre reason, Chrysler persisted in making two door Coupe versions of both it's Valiant range and the new Chrysler by Chrysler.

Both these models sold really poorly, as the Charger was taking the Oz motoring public by storm and outselling everything at this time.

CxC 2 doors are quite rare as a result, with the Valiant 2 doors not being that much more common.

Thanks a bunch AGAIN! That is a fine looking car! I want one!!!!!!!!! For the states, it's kind a 68 or 69 B body with an early 70's Dodge nose! Good looking car!

Lets see, Wally was impressed both with our 66 Pontiac Tempest coupe and a (not owned by us) 72 Ford Ranchero (Torino based ute), maybe we can figure out a way for him to swap these cars for one of the CxC's!
