I have an A-body 8 1/4 rear that I am ready to install the suregrip and 3.55 gears I have. I am looking at the install kits from Randy's and they list 70-75 and 76 and up. Its from an A-body so the chances of it being the 76 up are slim but I want to make sure.

I am not finding any date codes on it so how do tell? Thanks

The ring gear should have a date stamped on the outer periphery of the gear.

It does, but very crude, does this look like a 71 or 76. The early part number for the gear leads me to believe 71.

The ring gear part number remained the same way up into the eighties and maybe beyond.

Wow, it's really hard to tell. The '6' in the (questionable) '76' doesn't appear to be the same as the '6' just before it, so if I had to guess, I'd say it isn't a '76. Not much help, sorry.
