I knew a couple of ls6 chevelles that would beat a big block mopar and your unbeatable hemi no problem.. I had a 69 442 400-360 hp with 3.73 gears, started out stock about 14.30's and with a little work got to run consistant 13.80's on "real" street tires, and I felt like KING KONG. I could whack about anything I raced on the streets, 440 GTX's 396 Chevelles,Novas and Camaros, Cobra Jets, Didn't matter, until I ran a Hemi Orange 6 Pack Super Bee and He made a believer of me . I said "I'm a gonna get me one of them there Mopars without hood hinges" and I did, but mine was Green. With a small amount of work, the 6 packs would run deep in the 12's. Probably the best "Factory Street Racer" there was. These cars held the National records in their classes back in the day, before all the factoring crap and "replacement parts" they allow to brand x today in Stock. lol

I thought this was already done?
Darren Tedder built all of the best available big blocks,,,And the Hemi won with 800+ hp.

Well, if you take a bb chebby and a bb mopar and drop them from 100ft, the mopar will win The chebbies came with more alu parts than the mopars did

No, it would be a tie in that case. Grafity doesnt care about the type of metal.

Buick....

If Buick would have cast 50 pounds more iron in the 455 blocks they would have killed off the big Chevy.

Instead, you have a lightweight block with decent heads that seizes the crank if you turn it over 5500.

Here is my chevy would make more power. There is just so much more available parts for the chevy. Now lets make a better comparison.396 chevelle vs a 383 r.r.close to the same advertised h.p..car weight is close. What you think??You want to compare the ls6,A closer rival would be a max wedge.Even A better comparison that I would like to see is an apple- apple test.take a 440 and a 454,build them the same.Comp. ratio, cam size, intake, carb, etc.basicly same modification to both engines,I think the mopar would come out on top.Anyone board with some engines laying around

You mean the 68 Hemi dart was beat by a $1,600,000.00 pig Bugatti? They probably turned the A/C off.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

These cars held the National records in their classes back in the day, before all the factoring crap and "replacement parts" they allow to brand x today in Stock. lol

i really dont think there was a big block chevy in the country that was built for the same class that could out run a properly tuned hemi. i have an old friend that used to be sponsored by chrysler and all he ran was the hemi's. he said from the factory he was getting beat by the chevies and he couldnt figure out why. he checked the compression and it was a little under 10.1. he then made an offset bushing for the rod and it pushed the piston up for compression and he said the hemi came alive. he spent countless weekends massaging the pistons to exactly fit the head and a few other tricks and no chevy could beat him in his class. but my question is about big block wedge motors. a freind just built a 550 chevy using factory block and factory oval port heads and it made 758 hp. can a wedge motor do that is what i want to know. he said no way a mopar can make that kind of power with factory heads. i would love to prove him wrong.

I know it's one of basically none, but there is a true, factory ZL-1 corvette around here that was a Gulf oil research car. It's owned by a gentleman named John Mahr.

I don't know of a stock mopar big or small block that could touch that car.

so you are saying that car can and did beat factory hemi superstock cars? there is no way that car could do that. i would have to see it to believe it.

Well I do know a guy up hear that made 750 with a set of 63 MW heads. My buddy actually owned them for a while, but never used them. Then there was the engine masters deal ,I think Hughes? or indy built a 740 horse deal.... but that was only 440 cubes...
If I built a 550 that made 750,....I wouldn't be bragging.

I'm pretty sure thats the one I saw run 14's at the old Keystone... He said it would go 9's if he would really get on it

This is interesting I have own a number of vette's over the years and currently have a 2005 so I do know something about them.
They claim there where only 2 factory built ZL1's ever produced 1 is owned by Roger Judski of Roger's Corvette's here Maitland Fl and it is very well documented.
He has tried to track down number 2 and there was someone on the west coast that claimed to have it and it was a basket case but when Roger checked it out they could not produce any documentation on the car so he passed on it.
There where a number of vette's that had a ZL1 installed in them but not at the factory.
