What is the right way to adjust the kickdown linkage and when it is adjusted correctly is the tranny lever all the way back at wide open throttle.

Thanks

What year and model? If 68 to 70 B body on the throttle bracket where kick down lever mounts you'll see small hole. Insert a drill bit through the holes to set the start point. Un hook lever going down to tranny. with it sitting natural adjust it so it snaps right on the lever at throttle with out putting a down ward pressure. Rod 1 is now adjusted. Next step remove the throttle lever attaching cotter pin. Remove the drill bit from throttle braket from step 1. Hold carb at wide open throttle. Adjust arm till there is aprox 1/16 end play. You do not want the tranny lever slammed all the way back. It wants a tad of end play. Done reattach cotter pin.

then test drive and adjust the lever to fine tune the shift points where you want them..

I like them a little higher in the rpms myself

but thats shade treeing it

like he said for the 1 piece though

What would be the difference by adjusting it at curb idle speed and the trans lever front like the book say's or to do it by adjusting it by wide open throttle with the trans lever back. What way is the better way.

Adjusting the linkage so that the trans lever is full back at WOT will most often result in late part throttle upshifts and possibly no 2-3 upshift at WOT.

The stock linkage, when adjusted as the factory recommends, will have some trans lever movement remaining at WOT.

When I got mine I tried the 'all the way back' thing and I got the delayed/non-existant 2-3 upshift until I backed it off some.

You need to leave at least 1/32 end play. That will give the most presure and a tad later shift points. It is where you get the best performence shifts. DO NOT PUSH the trans lever solidly back. It needs at least 1/32 end play. The more play usually shifts a bit sooner. But max is 1/32 end play
