what are the differences between the 68-72 K frame.

Yes, they are that undesirable. The only difference between a 67 and 68 (assuming same engine mounts) is the idler arm mount. The idler arm for a 67 is more expensive and harder to find (if you can even find one). It is also generally accepted as weaker.

Is there any difference in the strut rod bushing area.

Could a 67 k frame be reworked to accept the 68 and newer idler arm?

Sure it could have the 68-later idler arm welded on in place of the 67 stub, but at that point you might as well use the later K.

There were changes at various points over the years (67-76) to the strut rod bushing area, but these were not functional changes.
