Just got a knock on the door from my neighbor. Apparently my electric fuel pump was running and the truck was turned off. Haven't driven it in a couple days and it's completly dry weather out so I don't think it was a short. I turned on the ignighton, then turned it off and the pump then turned off with it. Also, the pump sounded louder that usual. Never had a problem with it before and looks to be pretty new. Any idea what might be going on with it?

It's Purotator A12 pump if that makes a diffrence.

Is it powered by a relay?

I don't see one, though it was installed on the truck when I got it.

Fuel pumps use alot of juice typically. I bet your electric contacts/switch are burnt. Could be very dangerous, you should install a relay to handle the load.

I agree 100%, install a relay, & for now, i would disconnect the wiring so it doesn't cause a major problem for you.

Oh, & get a damn good switch, no cheapo stuff, the cheapo's will short out between the contacts when heavy loads are put on them, even though it says it'll handle 30amps, yeah right!!
Also run at least a 10 gage wire.

They have them at O'Reilly's or AutoZone, you can use the 4 prong 30 Amp. & a good 30 amp switch, just get the one with the connection plug that has the wires, i'm sure someone can post a pic on how to wire up an elec. pump through a reg. & switch. If i remember, there will have a Red/Orange/Green/Black wires.
