I have a 72 rallye charger that has a wounded 400. I am going to temporarily drop in a 75' 440 from a pickup until I can rebuild the 400. The 440 doesn't need to be rebuilt but I would like to slide in a better cam to wake it up a bit. Has anyone gotten good performance from a smogger with a simple cam change ?? The gears are 2.76 and it does have a small 2000 stall converter ,,,, everything else is stock.. Any ideas ????

Yep, some have gotten decent performance out of the smogger 440's...

Although not with 2.76 gears.

Look at the 440 smogger thread in the archived section. I ran the .528 mech and ran mint(12 flat). I chose it due to the 60* overlap for building cyl press. IMO the 509 is too big(72*)... but others will attest that its worked for them...

The resto cam and a set of headers would wake it up alot.

If you want cheap just to run try Summits cams. The larger one runs real well.If you are rebuilding the other motor and just want to get by they cant be beat.Like around 100 for cam and lifters.Rocky

cheap, the larger summit cam and the comp 911 springs. if you want to make more torque to better fit your converter and gears while making similar HP, I'd look at the Lunati voodoo 60302 and the comp 911 springs

Larger Summit cam is a nice piece for the $$$ even the smaller one would wake it up. As mentioned headers and a little more gear would help a TON.

Thanks for the advice to all ! I actually do have the bigger summit cam on the shelf,,, I had it in the 400 for a while but it didn't make much torque down low so i switched it out. But maybe it will work better with the 440's longer stroke ? I am going to install a set of shorty headers also.

I'm about to use that big summit cam too. Anyone know if the stock 11 inch converter will work well with this cam or will it need a higher stall?

Thanks,
CAC
