Well, I have a new valley pan and was about to order gaskets when I noticed that there were only 2 in the set. Don't I need 4 gaskets, one on top and one on the bottom of the valley pan for each side?

I did a search and read about the copper spray stuff and just using the pan which adds to my confusion. Checked my books and edlebrock with out luck.

I'd like to use the exhaust block off gaskets to help with my fuel perkulation problem but do I need 2 or 4 gaskets with the pan?

Thanks

Use no gaskets, just the metal pan. They make a metal pan with the exhaust ports blocked.

years ago Fel pro has a valley pan set that had 4 real thin paper gaskets. Nowdays the ones I'v seen have only 2 thick paper gaskets. I saw an attemt at useing the 4 thick gaskets and pan. The manifold was to high.
I like putting a thin smear of ulta blue or copper RTV with the valley pan only...

I am truckless..

I just bought a valley pan with blocked exhaust crossover and it comes with 4 gaskets and instructions to install one on top and one on the bottom of each side of the pan.

Here is the place to disregard instructions. Have always had good luck with pan only. Only time I have had a problem ios when I tried to use the paper gaskets with the pan.

4 gaskets per valley pan, but most are too thick.
I sell ones that are .015 thick so they don't affect intake height. $29.95 + $9.00 shipping for 5 sets (=20 gaskets).
Some guys don't run 'em, but some of us do. I don't like silicones or Form-A-Gasket anywhere near gasoline or an intake port.

I don't either Steve as none of them are rated for gasoline contact.

If I can get off my lazy [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] this week I'm going to do a step by step pictorial on sealing the pan by cutting off the runners and tucking the excess under the head. The pan only needs to be installed once, and you can change intakes as many times as you want without disturbing/changing the pan. And since the pan is totally segregated from the runners there is absolutely no way to suck oil. The problem with the non-recessed 1 and 2 piece trays that are on the market is that you can't run a low/medium rise intake with a heat crossover -- at least on a low deck -- because it high-centers the intake.

the old ones in the Felpro kit(4 of em) as said were too thick and the ones I saw were poorly cut & I didn't like the fit. I'm a believer in using a gasoline resistant sealer SPARINGLY on both sides of each of the 8 port opening of the valley pan and without a doubt I would get one w blocked off heat passages.

I shouldn't even mention it cause someones gonna But the most effective sealant I've used for the ports on a Mopar BB intake is Hondabond 4 from your local Honda Motorcycle dealer... I use it on both sides of the bathtub around the ports... I use a dab of silicone on the four corners where the head/block & bathtub meet...

Stay on me to get it done. If you see me post in another forum, hammer me mercilessly with a reminder. Just give me until Tuesday night though...

Hondabond is great stuff. I also think the "right stuff" you can get at Napa is very similar. You could also use it on the corners too. Hondabond HT vs Hondabond 4 is a little easier to work with because it is thicker like RTV. Resists gas, oil, whatever.........Jim

Good idea , too bad it wou't work with stock iron heads . I myself like to use the gaskets as it helps if the angles between the head and the intake aren't perfect PLUS it adds a layer of isolation between the intake and the engine to help keep the intake cooler , the valey transmits heat and it's gets HOTTER when it's being used to block the exhast crossover .

I always use the paper gaskets, but I have the heads milled so there is not a problem at assembly. I keep a small inventory of both the 0.015 and 0.030 gaskets.
