Anyone have a 3.8. does it burn oil? My 07 3.8 starting at 33,000 miles used 1 quart every 900- 1,000 miles consistently it now has 55,000 miles and still burn oil Ma Mopar says that okay and refuses to do any warrentee work......... I have owned many cars with way way way more miles than this 3,8 and they did not burn oil like this 3,8 does ........

No saying it's right but it's been the manufacturers contention all along that 1 qt every 700 miles is normal...

Mopar says 1 quart per 1,000 miles up to 50,000 is normal , I think there full of poo I have met a few owners of 3.8 that go 3,500 miles and use zero oil,,,, also have had many used and worn out high milege cars that did better than this cream poff 07 grand Caravan,,,,,,,,

Are you using 5/20 oil. Do you have blow-by, oil in air filter. You could pull the plugs to see if its one or more cylinders. 3.8L have been a very good motor and really shouldn't be using oil.

No blow by, clean new Mopar air filter and also I just put a new Mopar PCV in the old one was not stuck was hoping that it was ,,,,,,,, I have run Valvoline 5/20 Synthetic and MotorCraft 5/20 Blend and no difference still use oil.......... Next I will try regular petroleum 5/20 then after that I am thinking maybe a thicker Wt. oil might help..........

BTW Ma Mopar is zero help they just recite the factory accepted tolerance , we even bought the Mopar Life Time Drive line warren tee.....

I called the Factory rep now located on the other side of the world in India and got no help from them ,bummer........

We have a 2005 T&C w/3.8 and it will use one quart between the 4,000 mile interval that I change it. I have used standard 5-20w Valvoline since new but imagine it would consume slightly less with a higher viscosity. I think the 5-20w is recommended strictly for better fuel mileage. I am going to move to 10-30w starting with the next change.

Thought I'd bring this back up , might help some one with same issue.... The CEL recently came on had codes scanned at Auto Zone and read out leaking oil into cylinder and also catalytic converter,,,,,,,, I took it to dealer and they warren teed the converter which made no difference on anything except the CEL went out, dealer says Auto Zone's code for oil leaking into cylinder is nothing ...... Caravan still burns oil and I still have 3 years to go on payments Mopar the company of today sucks they don't back there cars or customers and hide behind stupid policy like Yea its ok that a two year old low milge car burns excessive oil,,,,,

anyone know why the code read out as oil leaking into cylinder??????

I just happened across this post and thought i'd offer my
I have an 08 Caravan with the 35,000 on the 3.8L. I run 5,000 mile drain intevals and am using Valvoline 5W-20 oil and Mopar filters. Starting around 20,000 miles it started using a quart between the changes and is reading low when I do the oil change. I suppose the consumption rate is about a quart evert 1.5 - 2.5 K miles, high in my opinion, but not to the OEM. I also had a 2004 Caravan with the 3.8 and experienced the same oil consumption, around 1500 miles per quart by the time it had 100K on the vehicle and we traded it in on this one. I never had any issues, It just ate oil for the entire time we owned it. I'm assuming it's just this engines, ring package etc...

Being a Parts Manager at a Mopar Dealership, I like guys like you!! Get to make more coin on a long block versus some rings and gaskets!!
But I bet the Service guys'll be glad to get rid of you!!

Yes they will be happy when I drive away , but in the end I think both the dealer and myself will be happy cause they get a nice big warrntee job, and they shine as a dealer in that they went the distance for me and got an approval for an engine replacement job that the factory standard says is OK also they look good in that they gave us a free loaner car for two weeks at a 150 mile max per day......... are next car will come from this dealer also they are getting the job done even though the factory said no,,,,,,,
