The CEL came on in my mom's 2005 Caravan (3.3L) so I pulled the codes and there was only one, P0405. Looked it up and it is an EGR flow sensor A circuit low. I thought that the sensor in the EGR mechanism was malfunctioning, so I picked up an EGR and changed it and cleared the code. Started it up and it worked fine until I went for a short test drive and the CEL came back on, same code. Cleared it again and it returns. Is this a known problem or do I have to start chasing down wiring or?????

Every EGR code I have ever had on those has been just the valave. Propably done two hundred of them. I'd run a continuty test from the connector to the pcm just to make sure though.

I'll guess I'll dig up a wiring diagram and check the wires from the EGR to the ECU.

Thanks.

They have a wierd egr on those. You get the valve and the egr together.I check for vacuum to the valve then pull vacuum on the egr.If it has them it needs replaced.99% of the time it needs replaced.Rocky

Vacuum??? There's no vacuum line or port on this valve. It is all one unit but from what I can see it is all electric.

Checked the wiring and couldn't find a problem so I figured it's either the ECU is defective or needs an update or the new EGR I picked up is bad. I didn't want to start replacing an ECU and trying to get warranty on a new electrical part is near impossible so took the van to the dealer. Two hours of playing around and they determined the new EGR was indeed bad. They replaced it but still had to pay labour.

I agree its more than likely the EGR.I believe even at the dealer they are cheap like 50 bucks or so and they have a vacuum part with them.I probally changed 50 at work.Rocky
