I thought I would start a thread about a charger I am almost through with. I have owned the car since Jan.07. Bought it in Scottsdale, Az. so it was a rust free, perfect body car. The previous owner had bought all kind of new parts, rebuilt the original 400 and 727. He had rebuilt the frontend, painted the car, redone the interior and was putting it all back together and I guess just got burned out on the project.
Well, I wanted something different so when I got it home I striped all he had done and started over. Now the car is sporting a Mopar Crate 6.4, a TKO 600 5speed, Moser Dana 60, wilwood 14 inch brakes on all four corners, Vintage Air, XV Level II front and rear,Flowmaster 3" exhaust, and Forgeline wheels. I know it is not everyone's idea of the perfect car, but since I autocross, will road race this one some and certainly drive my junk, I thought this was the perfect all around MOPAR to add to my garage.

Everyone says that about the big wheels. The thing about it is this, with 14 inch brakes, 18 inch wheels are the smallest ones you can put on it to clear the calipers. The ones you see on the car are 19 and 20. I have a set of 18s for the roadrace and autocross days.

The car spent this week in the interior shop getting new headliner, vinyl top and carpet fitted. We will have the front and rear glasses installed on Monday and hopefully drive it to the alignment shop Tuesday or Wednesday. Other than a few tweaks and installing the stereo system, we are about there with the car. We will have about six weeks to sort it out, then head to Vegas.

Awesome car. I like the wheels. Is it just my eyes, the perspective from the photo, or is the front wheel sitting a little back in the wheelwell?

Good eye. It is the picture. Someone on another board noticed that several months ago and then I did not really know. I measured the tire in the wheelwell and it does sit back about 1/2 inch but in the picture it looks like way more than that.

Thanks guys, here are a couple more pictures. The car should be finished this week and I will post some of the finished product.

And here is the rendering that I started with. Obviously the car will not sit this low, and I am going to do dark grey billboards, not black, I think. That would make them more ghost like, not so bold.

Here is the only picture I have at this point of the 18 inch wheels, and as you can see it was taken before I got the tires mounted. Notice too the horrible billboard. This was the first draft of the one we will be using. The HEMI is too large, and almost cartooning looking, look for something closer to the rendering. Of course the read color is just some scrap the printer had, no way is that the color.

Hey Bill!

It was great meeting you this weekend. Greg and I had a great weekend trip and your car is flat out awesome.

The pictures are simply not enough guys. You gotta see this thing in situ. It is very well built and Bill and his crew really have alot of talent.

Did you decide on the hood? The rallye style painted Organosol around the bulge versus the whole hood?

Great to met you guys as well. I am really digging the hood like ya'll suggested. I am thinking that is the way I will go. However, that may have to wait til after SEMA, time is running out on us. We did get the windshield and back glass in today. Hopefully we will drive it Wednesday or Thursday. Thanks for all the helpful hints and explainations about the car, it really helped. I hope all the parts helps Greg speed up his build also.

Today was one of those special days. We made the maiden voyage in the Charger. After almost three years of owning it, I actually got to drive it under it's own power, and WOW what a feeling.
Now to the sorting out of a few small issues, and on to the alignment shop. Then to the graphic shop and we should be ready for the Shades of the Past show next week and for Hot Rod Magazine the following Wednesday.

Notice, we did not wash the hood that has been in storage for a good while before snapping the pictures. We did not want it to get dark before we drove it a few miles.

First impression of the new 392 crate motor is unbelievable. I think I have too much gear as first is useless. WOT=instant smoke and rev limiter....haha

Who? ME? You better believe I will,
btw, tell Greg I never got that PDF file on the hood. I need that, I am going to paint it that way.
Thanks,

WOW!! The heck with pictures, we need a VIDEO of this thing!!

Myself, I'd leave off the billboards and just go with the blacked out hood like in the original rendering.....

I swapped the wheels and tires today to the ones I will be using when I autocross or road race the car. Remember these are 18s, smallest wheel I can use and clear the brake caliper. Just so you know, the fronts are 295x30x18 and the rears are 305x35x18. Still clearance, may get some 315s next time for the rear. It is unbelievable the room in the wheelwells front and rear with the new setup. Notice also how the car changes attitude with these no nonsense, no bling wheels. These are powercoated, and I refused to do the lips in chrome. I figured they will be abused so why have bling. I like the look, hard to decide which I like better. I do like the way the 19 and 20 fill up the wheelwells, but for racing the 18s are fine too. Hard to believe this thing came with 14s...
