Anyone know of a center sump pan for the 5.7 Hemi BESIDES Milodon? I have seen the custom aluminum one from Bouchillon and it is VERY nice but I don't want to spend $500 on an oil pan!

I know of one, Mopar makes it, but it costs pretty much the same as the other ones.

What's the story on 5.7/ 6.1 pans. Are they OEM aluminum as opposed to stamped steel?

They different from previous engines I guess?

Car pans are cast aluminum.

Truck pans are stamped steel, but not ordinary steel (that would be too easy). They're stamped from "quiet steel". Basically a laminate, 2 layers of steel with plastic sandwiched between to prevent the part from resonating. It works, but the oil inside the pan also dampens alot of resonance by itself....

Here's a link to explain better:
http://www.quietsteel.com/quietsteel.html

Many of us would assume we could cut the sump off a truck pan and relocate it, but imagine the melted plastic everywhere, contaminated welds, etc.

Got a link to this pan or do you get them from the dealer?
I know a rear sump truck pan is only $99.
I would be happy with a "Quiet steel" mid sump pan.
I don't like that "gold" color on the Milodon (I know...just paint it) and I have heard they are hard to seal well.....anyone have experience with that issue??

P5153643, and it's $542.00 retail with dipstick tube and pickup. And it's also the gold color you mentioned you didn't care for.

With either it, or the Milodon pan you'll have to use not only the factory integral gasket on the windage tray but you will also need a whole bunch of RTV correctly applied and cured (a 1/4" bead on BOTH sides of the windage tray, let set up for 24 hours before exposure to oil).

Why? Because both pans are hand fabricated, and the rails are not exactly straight on either one. They are both on the rough side.

The rails are slightly easier to seal on the Milodon pan because it follows the contours/angles near the timing cover more closely than the MP pan, but in truth....with either one....better load up the caulk gun with rtv.

I have the mopar pan on mine. I think it was 382.00 with the pick up and dipstick from the dealer. I have had mine on for about 1000 miles with no sealer and have no leaks.

That's cool you had good luck with it. You got an excellent price on that.

Mine, laid on the block, can be rocked back and forth end to end about 25 or 30 thou....there is a high spot in the rail somewhere in the center....yes the bolts with "smash" it down somewhat, but....I only want to do it once so I'm going to use sealer.

And on top of that, it's probably going into a C body, and I might need to cut/notch it for steering linkage clearance too....etc...so maybe I better check and see what fab work I have to do before I try to install it.

The one Milodon one I checked out could be rocked back and forth about the same as the Mopar pan (only diagonally, so it was warped out of the box in a slightly different manner). It did look nice but wasn't what I'd call a gem....Yes it would work, but I'd probably use sealer on it too.

The pan rails are all fabricated, so one is going to be alot different from the next unfortunately...

Thats true nothing worse then having a leak. The factory pan did have sealer where the timer cover met the pan and where the rear main seal met the pan. I did by my pan about 18 months ago so maybe the price has gone up.
