don't usually watch much racing but was watching some of the race from the grove. after his car got loose in the water coming up through the track WJ hammered nhra about how they're handling the sport. i'm no WJ fan but you have to respect his accomplishments. sure slammed nhra and personally i tend to agree with what he said...what say you?

That and also the comment about screwing the fans...
he has some valid points about the NHRA babying the
fuel guys and the hell with the other 99%

What did he say exactly ?

You HAVE to respect a guy like that...EVEN THOUGH he is very-much OUTspoken.

Most of us here would probably LOVE to know about HP builds ... just what he has forgotten.

I pretty much agree with what he said, we don't need any more deaths in the Fuel ranks, or any other for that matter. Slow the cars down 90% of the fans won't know the difference. If you could make them run 4.50's to 1000' and tell everyone they're running to the 1/4 again, half the people wouldn't know a difference other than the sub 300mph speeds.

The water seepage is unacceptable, we deal with it up here at pacific, if water is coming up, a car doesn't go down til its fixed. Negligence on NHRA's part in this area could severly cost them if someone got hurt.

I'm glad he said something, and I'm sure many agree with him, including many sportsman racers who are the heart of this sport.

he was slamming nhra about "scalping the fans" and catering to TF which only comprises a tiny fraction of the racers out there. he said they should have slowed the fuelers a long time ago instead of having the tracks spend all their money on shutdown area as opposed to the racing surface.

He was crying like a baby just like he has been for years......

Instead of crying he should have adjusted for track conditions like ALL the other tf / fc / ps cars .

I cant stand that guy

How do you adjust for water coming out of the track?

I have the utmost respect for WJ; he taught GA everything he knows...

He speaks his mind...that I appluad.

He said NHRA is only concerned with 1% of the race cars (the fuel cars) and he made a point of "scalping the fans". BUT...while the fuel cars are 1% of the participants, 99% of the fans are only there to see the Fuel cars. So while he's "right", NHRA won't care what he had to say. If Force or Schumacher have no complaints, they (NHRA) are happy.

Complaints ?....and NHRA listening ??

IF everyone could get-together AS-ONE .. the people who NHRA should be listening to are the Sportsman guys.

NHRA could not run a LIVE program without those guys.

I now think "Pinks All Out" has proven that you can fill the stands WITHOUT TOP FUEL or FUNNY CAR..

Rich Christensen has exposed NHRA on this one..

He uses the grass roots racer to give everyone a great show. Ratings, I'm sure are higher than NHRA and the stands are full..

Like him or hate him, he has exposed a weakness in the NHRA Pro racers..

It may fade away, but for now, people are coming out in droves..

Best time I've ever had racing.

Chris..

WJ has been complaining about the fuel cars for years. He used to complain all the time that the P/S cars couldn't get down the track because of the clutch dust from the "silly cars".

Yes, NHRA does cater to the fuel cars. You tend to do that when they are the ones paying the bills. WJ needs to remember that P/S and PSB run before fuel so that there are people in the stands when they run. They used to run P/S last and as soon as the last fuel car lit the stands started emptying out like you flushed a toilet.

P/S and everything else are merely space fillers for fuel.

Water through the track is unacceptable, but your only other recourse is to postpone the event for a day or 2 until the groundwater level goes back down. They fight this all over the place. They crashed cars at National Trails and Norwalk because of it.

I think the NHRA should take some notes from an ADRL race stands packed hard to get tickets sometimes and the racers are happy

WJ does make some comments that come off as abrasive sometimes. But, at least his interviews have content. What I hate are the interviews that come off like press releases. Typical smiling 'cup style stuff. "the boys back at the shop have been working real hard on the bla-bla-bla Chevy...".

I crashed my TAD at National Trails because of water coming up through the cracks. Same day, same lane that Jason Line crashed his pro stock car. It sucks but what can you do about it after the fact?

His point was that they have mandated all of these safety improvements for the fuel cars, while ignoring the water seepage issues. Norwalk has made a lot of changes to address the problem on their own dime, what have they done at the NHRA-owned tracks, other than build luxury suites?

It's good to hear someone call them out on this, although WJ will probably be on the blacklist with Larry now.

I have not watched a NHRA race in years!
I can care less about T/F, F/C.
Pro stock is about the the only pro class I will watch.
Sportsmen classes are far better to go see! always left after Friday afternoon.
