I think I'm going to order a gas tank for the Challenger today from RockAuto. I believe their tanks are the good ones made in Canada.

What is everyone running for tank straps? Are you using the origonal style or did you go with stainless?

Are there any problem with the stainless straps being up against a non stainless tank or do weird things just happen when you put aluminium against steel? Thanks

I used regular steel ones and painted them with clear to prevent corrosion. Stainless is relatively inert and you shouldn't get much galvanic action between stainless and the galvanized tank IIRC. Either way would be fine IMO, but I think my choice will look more correct.

Make sure the tank you get is galvanized and not painted silver! DAMHIK.

Cheers,
Dave

Does anyone know if the Spectra tanks are galvanised? I saw some tanks at the Nats that looked painted. Thats why I didn't get one there.

I called RockAuto and had them check with Spectra to see if the tank came galvanised. It did, so I ordered one.

I didn't get the straps with it. I'll probably spend the extra money and get stainless straps from BE&A.

I ordered the tank at 12:31 Iowa time and I just got an e-mail that said the tank has been shipped.

That's under an hour and a half. Wow, this is the first time I have ordered anything from RockAuto but it won't be the last.

Each person has their preference and although stainless looks great on its own; I'm not too wild about drawing attention to the underside of a car.

To me it would be equivalent to painting the rear end yellow. Yellow is a great color and looks good but painting a rear end yellow?

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

So can anyone post a pic of the back end of the car with a stainless strap and one with the stock style? Thanks

Wow dude, .....I don't think it's gonna shock your system that much to have stainless straps on your tank, they come with a "as rolled finish", which means they have a natural look to them, they aren't mirror polished!

Here's the best pic(for now) I have of mine, my tank is galvinized, I took some polishing compound to the tank to raise the finish of the galvi, then clear coated it in Dupont Chroma Preimer CC, the straps are stainless, I left them as recieved, they contrast nicely with the tank,....and I wanted to "downplay highlighting the undercarriage", so instead of "yellow" .....I put a chrome cover on the Dana 60

The stainless straps are not polished and you can hardly tell the difference if at all.

Sorry guys when I heard stainless I was imagining a chrome bumper down there. At which point I started thinking of guys who painted the frame of their car a contrasting color (red or yellow) so it would stand out a little and the guys that like putting colored wire harness covers in the engine compartment.

Carryon!

you could always cover them with a long strip of duct tape.

I bought stainless ones to put on, but look where that led...

Like I said earlier, I ordered my tank from RockAuto at 12.31 on Friday. I got a confirmation e-mail before 2:00 the same day saying that it had shipped.

My wife and I went away for the weekend for our aniversary. We got back this afternoon to find my new gas tank sitting outside my garage.

Wow that was fast. I didn't even pay for overnight servise.

Thanks for the info on the straps. I'll go stainless.
