Yep, the scoop was just for clearance.

I like mine...
I almost put an aero on er, but thought the cowl looked a lil more sleek.

Yeah I went from the six pack hood to a 6in cowl! The car ran alittle faster mph with the cowl.

I did, and lost perofrmance considerably with the cowl hood. I put the six pack back, and the performance was restored. This wasn't a one race deal, but I run several races with the cowl induction, and since the car didn't run as well as it should have, I removed the cowl induction scoop and laminated the sic pack scoop back. however, all I can say is, that it didn't work well in that particular car, the way it was excuted. It mey very well work in some others, but you really donät know unless you compare it to something else. I did, and the conclusion was evident.

I did it because of clearance issues also. And I figured if we do start doing well at the races we plan on racing next year being the only Mopar that shows up they might rule out our forward hemi scoop we had on it. Plus a nitrous backfire demolished our hemi scoop!

I put one on mine for hood clearance. I don't need air from a scoop or cowl though because my air goes through a turbo before it enters the carb. The cowl added some aerodynamics to my brick to help direct the air over the top IMO.

you think like that !!!!

you put a cowl hood on a duster or cuda and there novas and camaros too you

but on a car thats faster like 9.00s to 8.00s

over 150 mph you would want a cowl hood

BILL MAY

said it ,cowl hood has a mph in it

If you don't like people putting cowl hoods on mopars, buy all the mopars and do what you want with them... otherwise get over it! I think theres some ugly mopars out there, done whatever way... but I could care less, they aren't mine!

I'm not going to get into a 2nd grade "COMEBACK" argument with you so I'll say this and I'm done with it..........I did it for hood clearance, aerodynamics, and possible rule implications. When you start outrunning chevys and fords with a lone Mopar they start trying to figure out ways to ban you and a forward facing scoop is something for them to gripe about. My family owns a Dodge dealership and we own about 10 antique and classic Mopar muscle cars and trucks. You don't get any more Mopar than me trust me.

What is the reasoning behind a no-forward-facing-scoop rule?

I think they put that rule in a lot of heads up classes to keep the cars looking more stock appearing. They are afraid people will show up with a pro stock type scoop or something like that and the car will look like a race car instead of a street car. The scoop I had on my car was just a standard super stock hemi scoop like what came out on the factory race hemi baracudas. I wouldn't have changed it if a nitrous backfire didn't blow it off my hood! I went with a cowl because I wanted to be able to run an air cleaner where I couldn't with the clearance of the other scoop. Also because I know that when I start winning some races they will whine about my scoop and make me change it cause its forward facing.
