Randy I admire your car and efforts but do you really think a large cowl hood looks like a street car? I would work on getting that bs rule changed. sounds like a rule made by someone who runs a cowl hood and thinks there is an advantage to the other cars that have a front faced scoop

finally found something me and quicktree agree on!

My computer didn't pull up all the pictures but it did most of them, I think they would almost all look better if they were not so tall and they start at the front of the hood instead of 6 inches back, they just look dorky but a couple small changes might help.

The hemi scoop looks better than the 6 pack scoop but is less functional. The hemi scoop was desighned mostly to make room while the 6 pack scoop was desighned to function, that is why it has some space under the opening, to keep it out of the turbulant boundarie layer of air. The best looking mopar scoops don't do much at all for function though, the A-body twin scoops.

Who'd of thought a 6 1/2" cowl would look small on a Mopar? I've got one on my car because I like it and it's what the rules say. I am planning to block off the rear of the cowl and direct air in from behind the bumper, kind of like what ari440 posted of that Camaro on the first page. Lane Lambert has done the same thing on his N/A Dart and has seen positve results.

No problem Billy, just wanted you to know it is being changed. My carbs are several inches above the fender line so I need something that fits and nothing stock even comes close. Please read what Leon441 said about the performance advantage/disadvantage at the other end of the track vs dyno results. Tony also said he went through hell and back getting that hood (don't want to smear the company who made it on here). Aesthetically speaking, I don't think it looks as good on this body style as it did on my dart. As you know it doesn't have inner fender wells and it has a lexan windshield so I can't compete in any of those events that would require a rear facing hood scoop. I did consider cutting it open and just let the air cleaners come through the cowl but once again the performance would be negatively affected. Do you happen to have any pics of the car with the previous hood prior to the cowl he put on? Was it a stock hood? Here's a pic of Darren's car with the exact same hood/scoop I'm going to put on. I think it fits the lines of the car aesthetically much better, I firmly believe I will have a performance gain (which trumps everything else to me), and I don't have to worry about meeting NMCA/track requirements restrictions because I have alot of other things that eliminate me from that class anyway. But when I had my dart I must say I did enjoy pissing off the purists with my 4" cowl hood just to be different. I need to get some pics of the new heart transplant.

I have an 8" cowl and also tried a new style pro stock scoop. With the pro stock scoop it was hard to see around and just didn't look right. I have the cowl seeled to the windshield and have a pro stock truck type induciton from the grill. 8"x18" opening sealed to the cowl.

With the cowl I can see the upper fenders and about knee height anywhere in front of the car.

The car MPH's really good. On motor I run 8.85's @ 161 MPH and with 150 NOS running 7.70's @ 174 MPH. Has a real stout Nitrous cam and real tight Nitrous converter...

personaly i have a sixpack scoop on my duster but i had a L88 scoop on my 68chevelle i used to own and you just have to take a drive when it rains to understand how well they work if they are anywhere near correctly placed on the hood...
i dont care for this no chevyparts on my mopar, tell everyone who uses chevy rockers on there magnumheads...
or just tell any racecar driver that his car is wrong because its not all mopar since half the car is put togheter out of aftermarketparts anyway...
and just take those sixpacks of the 340īs and 440īs since they could be found on GM cars before they where used on mopars...

And to those that posted they went slower, have you given any consideration that the difference in air (be it less or more with the cowl hood) affected your a/f ratio at certain speeds?

Just a though.....
I dont like the looks either.

Yes mine was used over several shows with tune up changes to try match the performance to no avail. Also compared to previous data as prevailing conditions.

Cowl hoods DO FLOW AIR into the engine.

But evidently not enough.
I have also seen rain drops just stay put on a widshield do the the pressure effect on them. Basially no movement to them. Like hitting something laying flat. That tells me that there is a low/no pressure area with little air or air movement to be drawn into the engine. Just a neutral area.

cowl hood gond BAD.....this may be an example of why people dont like them...

I actually had it lowered about two inches. The guy that did the hood screwed up. It was not supposed to keep getting taller as it went back.

However, when you guys can figure out how to put a Predator headed 654 with a sheet T/R and two fours under the hood without it being that tall, you let me know.
We are not allowed forward facing scoop for the most part.

Old pic, but you get the idea...

Dude, with that pic I bow down totally. That is one awesome powerplant.

Better pic of the height problem.

Personally, I like the cowl look. I don't think too many scoops look right on a boxy car.
