I have a '77 .030 360 in my 65 Coronet. It had been rebuild with KB domed pistons (don't know actual cr- have to run premium fuel), MP .280/474 cam, edelbrock RPM, 750 Holley, tti headers, FBO igniton and distributor, 727 with 1000 over stock TCI convertor, 3.55 rear on 255/60 15 T/A radials.

It ran 13.55 at 102mph spinning tires.

for a cam I'd probably look at a lunati voodoo 60402, maybe a comp XE268.

intake, I'd ditch the performer for an air gap or performer RPM.

I'd swagger you're going to be low 14's maybe nipping a 13.8 or 13.9l, especially with the intake change....

For that weight go comp 268 or 270 single pattern cam run no higher then 26 26.5 tall rear slicks the 28s will cut the 3.91s Do not run the dual plane performer runs a stock intake before you use that paperwight. Get a LD340 performer RPM or Mopar intake Car will run arond 14.3-14.6 average at around 93-95 mph. By the way get the timing up to a total of at least 44-46 degree's total if the pistons are below the deck 7.5-8.5 to one comp jst the 750to 70-71- frt rear no more then 77s depending on air temp and altitude

I can say that the 904 is worth close to .15 to near .2 second in the qtr.track tested yes there is that much rotating mass difference. However I will never use a 904 again behind a 360 one too many explosive failures. The present 727 is staying until it dies

IMO the little bit of gain isn't worth it. Longevity and consistancy is the name of the game for me. Being the quickest or fastest isn't what wins in bracket racing or in Pro heads up at times for that matter.

never seen a 904 explose like a 727...

been using the same 904 in a 69 barracuda since 1993 with a transbrake...been rebuilt once due to a ring gear braking and took out the overrunning clutch...

another 904 in 360 dart...working on 3rd year...
look at signature and see that they are running pretty good.

Even if you know how to tune the 750 double pumper, it will not perform to expectations. You have too much weight and not enough gear, compression or converter for the carb. A 750 vacuum or a different, smaller carb should work better in the long run.

Nothing wrong with a 904 in a performance application if it's built right.

With stock heads and your mild compression I'd be looking at a 650vacuum carb or a tuned thermoquad before a 750DP.

I also have a 600 edlebrock on the shelf...Would that be a better carb??? Would i be better off trying to find some steper gears?? I know where i can find suregrips that have 4:10s and one with 4:30s but i wasnt sure if that steep of gear would help??

yes, the eddie will be a better fit. I had a stock long block 360, 1406 eddie, Air gap, comp XE262, MP166K converter and 3.55's, and 27" tires and my 5th ave could keep up with a stock 5.7L LX car, which means it should have been a low 14, maybe nipping the 13's car (never had it to the track)

FWIW, on that eddie, I used the stock secondary jets in the primary, stepped the cruise needles down one size, and went with .089" secondary jets to get my mixture right using a friends LM1 Wideband 02 sensor.

The 72 340 swinger I had came w/ a 625 Carter, can ran a best of 14.02. I put on a 750HP and the car went 13.80. which do you think is a better carb? and you have more cubes and more cam.

The 750 DP is one of the best carbs ever made. with a 3000 stall just try it. A 600 is probably too small for all out peformance but you can try it? don't over think anything till you drive and make some runs. Big first items is make sure you have your distributor re curved with light springs right from the get go.Set total mechanical advance to 35 or 36 and don't hook up vacuum advance for a couple three weeks (if ever it's a crude cruise gas mileage device designed in a time we had way different fuels than now) If you must try the vacuum advance make sure it is on ported vacuum and not manifold it SHOULD NOT affect idle when you plug or unplug it.
Have some fun

The 4.30s will work but get the tires to at least 28 inches tall. I have run 4.30s at the track but you will need a cam that will power you to at least 5800-6000. The 4.10 s maybe just right for a more dual purpose car. With 29.5 tires I drive my car now with 4.56s to tracks and back in some cases 80 miles one way
