My Aunt had a Duster, I'll never forget that beast of a car. She'd take Me places and I would bury My head in My lap. (Embarrassed). Imagine that! One day she looked at Me and said you know what? This car can outrun any car on the streets no matter how pretty they may look to you! I was sort of like 'yeah right' she told Me (and I am not sure if this is true or not) that it had a 'police package' in it. Didn't even know what the heck she was talking about back then. She said a cop owned it prior to her owning it and had some uhhh modifications done on the engine. She told Me some wild stories about that car and maybe, it was her that made Me appreciate Mopars? No idea but it's quite possible looking back on it now. She proved many times that the car had plenty of 'get up and go' and nearly scared the pants off of Me a few times. I did find this link about your query as far as police package cars are concerned. Police Package Cars Pop Pop (husbands grandfather) had a Fury police car. Husband says the man was dangerous in that car. He owned one of those what, ummm....Sinclair stations and was a mechanic both in the military and at home. He would always be looking in the back seat for something or looking over there, over here, over there while driving that black wonder. Never wrecked but hubby says he was scared plenty of times.  Said that car was wicked. Wicked enough to never be wrecked. Never was either. (Don't know where it ended up so I could be wrong by now).

Quite a few Plymouth/Dodge cars were available with police packages over the years. K-cars, Valiants, Aspen/Volares, A-1 series vans, station wagons, even the Chrysler Newport (in 1962). They weren't always just big engines either, some police packages were available with /6 and 318s during the bigblock years. Often times police packages received extra spot-welds, PS coolers, heavier alternator and wiring, different engine pieces (for durability, not performance), sometimes extra gauges, sometimes a 1st gear blockout on the shifter linkage. And the CERTIFIED speedo, of course. A police package is just that - a whole engineed package, not just an engine. The above info is based on 2 Mopar-exclusive policecar books that I have read (some of you know those books, too  )
Parts I seek:
driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set
16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better.
69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields

I had a 74 Plymouth fury. ex state police car Connecticut. it had a 440 auto. with a dana 60 rear end. I paid 520 at the state auction in 1980. pics, coming soon.

I bought a '77 Fury Police package 4-dr. Drove it for years, it was a fantastic car. 440hp, hi-stall converter, 1st gear block, 4 pinion planitaries, trans cooler, 100amp alt., airconditioning blockout, certified 140mph speedo, hvy duty brakes, hvy duty suspension, Goodyear 6 ply Flexten radials, spotlites, hvy duty cooling package, 9-1/4 rear with 2.94 gears, and things I've forgotten about over the years. I also couldn't leave well enough alone, I installed a MP 284 cam, 1-3/4" headers, H pipe and duel turbo mufflers, recurved the distributer, rejetted the carb. I would easily bury the needle. It rode nicer at 100+ than at 55, the speed limit at the time. I never got a ticket driving that car, they all just waved. Dave

Darts, Valiants, Aspens, Satellites, Furies, Belvederes were all part of the police package family & could be had with anything from /6s to 440s & a VERY FEW had Hemis. N.M. State Police even had a Superbird for a "courier car" for a short time. I was lucky enough to start my law enforcement career just as the big-block cars were getting phase out, so as a rookie I got the "old" (& BB powered ) cars to drive since they were pretty used up by then. They still ran like a scalded ape, though. The seats, while firm were so slick that a sharp turn required you to have a death grip on the steering wheel otherwise you'd slide out from under it. The odd/interesting thing with these cars is that many of the big motors had the same parts or engines as their musclecar relatives, so essentially I was getting paid to drive a musclecar 40hrs/week! When the small-block cop cars came out there was such an inconsistency in the fleet purchase, some were REAL good (like a 360 Aspen with W-2 heads & 4bbl) while others you were actually embarassed to drive. However they were equipped they were FAAAAAAR better than the current crop of police cars we're stuck using. All the manufacturers seemed to have forgotten the abuse these cars take & for the most part only upgrade the electrical & cooling systems......

 and id love to hear stories from the old days. Dont knock the new Chargers though, they are a pretty dang good police car, save for the lack of room and visibility compared to a Crown Vic.
and btw the Virginia State Police used 2-door 440 Furys through 1970.
I dig driving the old troop car around, I would have loved to be a cop in the old days

My first car was a wrecked 70 Belvedere RK41 car. 383 4 bbl and basically was a 4 door Roadrunner. There used to be a junk yard near here where a lot of the Virginia State cars would end up and he would sell you the drive train for a buck a cubic inch.

I have had 2 64 Plymouth Savoy 2dr post sedans both Indiana State Police cars. Both were 383 with single trac. I bought the first one at a Public Police auction in summer of 1966 and it was not wrecked but had a dead cylinder and drove for 25.00 My buddy & I put a junk yard $50 Imperial 440 in it and a free suregrip punkin........miss that car. The second we bought in Danville, IN in 72 and drove it home for 300.00 and did the same "tune-up" sold it to a friend and am still looking for another.......Man, those were the fun good 'ol days.......  Steve
