What's the best way to get the over-sized spring back on the clutch pedal?

Stretch it with a floorjack and put wedges between the coils.

Put one end in a vice and pull to the side to put washers between every coil (on both sides). Install it and then dig the washers out. Be sure to leave some of the hole exposed to get a screwdriver in.

It's been a while since I put one in. Trying to think why when after installed that the washers weren't easily removed after depressing the clutch pedal.

I'd be interested to hear other "methods".

what clutch are you using? centerforce dont really need one. i have left many out myself. i thought if you unhook the clutch, and depress the pedal alone, you can pop it on w/ a small prybar?..then pull it up,and rehook the clutch linkage. be careful, and not get your fingers pinched under the pedal, once the spring is attached,w/o the linkage attached,lol..SLAM!! OOOWWWCCCH! F%$$^ D%$#^ S(%^!!

Its an "over center" spring, meaning it will pull either way once it goes past "center. So ... when you depress the clutch it goes past center and helps your left foot overcome the pressure plate. When you release the clutch and the pedal comes back up (from the force of the pressure plate) it once again goes past center this time bringing the pedal all the way up.

Its just my thought but leaving this spring out would mean that the pedal would only come up as far as the pressure plate pushes it. This would leave the release bearing in constant contact with the fingers and it would be continuously spinning. This can't be good. The itty-bitty spring on the fork is there to avoid this but it doesn't have the balls to do the job without the over center spring doing its job.

Hydraulic Throw out bearings remain in constant contact with the fingers...why can they "take it" but a regular throw out bearing can't?

Didn't say they can't. But why subject them to that when you don't have to.

It has been a while, but I think I took the linkage off and with no carpet under the pedal, pushed it to the floor and the spring went on with a brake spring installer or a pair of vise grips.., then I raised it up and installed the linkage...

I duno but my regular TOB died a quick death when the adjusting nut tightened itself up going down the road. No air gap, no workie.

I just had to do this last night. I tapped some thick washers between the spring coils. I then put it in place and pulled the washers out with a pair of wire cutters.

You don't run the over center spring if you have a diaphram (CF) clutch

I want my fair share

So, do I need to find one for my truck then? I just changed out the centerforce, to a dual disk McCloud. The pedal does not come all the way up. Where do I find a creature like this said spring for a 75 dodge truck?
