Hi,

I bought through Summit Racing a Zoom HP1647-1 - Zoom High Performance Clutch Kit and installed it into a 1965 Hemi Coronet with a 23-spline 4-speed transmission.

After the first start at the strip after trying to change into the second gear the clutch was blocked. I could not change any gears anymore...

I opened the dust cover and saw that one of the 3-fingers of the pressure plate moved over the Throwout Bearing. While installing the clutch I got the impression that the 3-fingers of the Beck and Borg-type pressure plate were too short or the diameter of the throwout bearing too small!

(1) Please can you explain me why this happened.
(2) Did I do anything wrong while installing the clutch?
(3) What do I have to check that this does not happen again?

Your help is appreciated!

Karl from Switzerland

First thing was you bought a Zoom.Ive had nothing byt bad luck with them. One I went thru on a 361 with street tires in about 1000 miles.I have a CF dual disc and my buddy has one in his Hemi.No problesm. They last and bite maybe even a little too good.I also ran McCleod with lots of luck. That adn I think you mean throw our bearing. The pilot is in the crank.Did they give you a hemi throw out bearimg? The size difference is a lot.Lots of people like to say hemi.If you bought a 23 spline clutch and said hemi then you screwed up and got an 18 spline TO bearing.Rocky

If the throwout bearing is traveling far enough to allow it to bypass the levers you need to install a pedal stop. Adjust the stop to allow a friction disc clearance of .060" (1.5MM).

What are you using for a bell housing? Had a problem with the wrong pivot. I used the stock pivot when I switched to a bell that allowed a 130 or 143 tooth flywheel. The fork was not deep enough in to the throw out bearing. Worked most of the time, but on a few occasions one side of the fork came out of the bearing/retainer. I didn't realise there was more than one pivot. Installed the correct pivot and all was well.
