Just fitting some rings (Sealed Power E-424K) and the instruction sheet doesn't match what's in the box...

The label on the box says the rectangular section ring is the top ring, and the ring with a bevel on the top inside edge is the second ring.

No problem - but the instruction leaflet shows both of these as top rings, with the second ring having a bevel on the bottom side

Don't want to screw this up - which is which?
Thanks.

All I can contribute is my C&A rings have the top(moly) ring w the bevel on the top inside and the cast 2nd ring has the bevel on the bottom inside(both w the dots on top. My sealed power set(cast, cast) has the same orientation. EDIT Even though my instructions show a ring w NO bevel for illustration purposes I have yet to open a pkg that had them(no bevel) in it so if someone does not have the answer, a call to them(oops forgot your location , better do an email) might be in order. The non bevel may be correct for your app or someone on the assy line might have grabbed the wrong ones

The cast sealed power rings I bought came with the same rings for the top and middle. I did not get any square rings, all were beveled and appeared to be top rings. Only ring that were different were the oil rings...?

Base model sealed power cast rings for 440 standard bore size. All rings(except oil obviously) have the bevel on the same side as the dot. In fact all 16 rings are identical and all look like top rings. Are they okay to run or did I get a bad set?

I dont know how they will turn out in actual use but I have yet to see identical top and second rings and I would suspect the assembly line guy grabbed 2 bunches of top rings. To the OP, I just opened a new set of Hastings rings(cast, cast) for you & the ones in the "top" section are rectangular w no chamfer & (for good reason)no dot(wouldn't need one as could go either way) just like the ones in your pic. The 2nd groove ones have a dot w the chamfer on the bottom inside so it would appear(from going thru my ring sets that the other ones in your pic w the dot and the top inside bevel are also top rings and that you have 2 different varieties of top rings. EDIT just now noticed that your non beveled one on the right has a dot whereas my hastings identical top rings do not

Thanks for this guys. It does look like I have two sets of top rings - but whether that is by design or accident isn't very clear.
I've been given a link to the manufacturers application guide -
http://www.federalmogul.com/korihandbook/en/section_18.htm
but that implies that either type of ring can be used in either position.....
