Between a "shift kit" and a "manual valve body"? I thought they were the same thing but from what I've read, they aren't. Or am I missing something?

Secondly, I'm thinking of installing a shift kit in my 727. I had one "back in the day" and really liked it. As I understand it, a shift kit is not harder on the tranny but might actually be easier on it. Comments?

I would suggest a transgo TF-2 "shift kit"

A shift kit modifies line pressures, and shift points. A good one can prolong trans life, as there is less slippage with higher pressures.
Typically, they still shift automatically when D is selected.

A manual valve body, is just that. You select the gear you want, and that's what you get, regardless of speed, or throttle position. .

Manual valve bodys are performance pieces too, so they will also have higher pressures, etc. for longer clutch life.

The sacrifice of both is firmer shifts, but for most of us with a muscle car, that is no big deal.

A shift kit firms up the shifts. A manual valve body means you have to make all the shifts just like a stick.

As my friend Elvis would say: Thank you... thank you very much.
