Thought some of you Road Runner fans might be able to help me out. I have this 69 RR that is a factory 2 tone paint car that is an all numbers matching, 383 4spd radio delete car. I have the build sheet and fender tag too. My question is this: do you ever remember seeing one of these 2 tone paint cars and do you know anyone that has one? I was 19 years old when they came out but I sure don't remember seeing one.

Was the top painted white? Any pictures of the car before it was stripped?

I know I've seen some yellow and red ones with black along the bottom in magazines. Is that what you are talking about?

Any pictures of the car before the work began?

The top is W1 over F8. When I bought the car back in 1999 it had been repainted all green but when I dis-assembled the car I found the white paint on the A pillar and drip rail. I'll see if I can find a picture an post it.

This car came with W1(Alpine White)top over a F8 (Ivy Green) body color. The only pictures I have before the resto started is an all green car, but not the correct green as it was repainted before I bought it.

How about posting the fendertag ?

They made something between 84,000 and 85,000 69 road runners , I'm thinking a V02 car isn't that rare , but it's cool none the less .

According to Galen's documents only 1.4% of 69 hardtops came in VO2 which is about 656 cars. I go to A LOT of Mopar shows and I never see any.

The car is headed to Jacobs & Angelly Restorations right after the Nats so providing I don't run out of $$$$ it will be either at Carlisle or the Nats next year. Paul has already restored ALL of the parts and I have already purchased 99.5% of the new parts so it's just a matter of Troy doing the sheet metal and paint, plus I need to assemble the engine. The car is going to look strange as it came with full wheel covers. I'll probably be accused of building a clone car.

It's in good hands with Troy and Paul.

seen a 69 y2 with black top paint at springfield mo. street machine nats, don't remember which year. nice rare option, anything out of the norm is worth putting back original, just my opinion. i'll look for a picture.

This car is going back as a 100 point concours restoration since it's a numbers matching car. That is why Jacobs & Angelly are doing the work.

In the past several months on e-bay, there were two for sale. One was in NJ and was TX9 with a silver roof if I remember correctly, and the other was TX9 with a white roof out of NM or AZ. Both were 383 4-spd cars.

The one out of NJ has been for sale for quite sometime if it's the same one I saw (Vinney was the seller?). Don't know about the one out west but there must be very few still out there. Maybe some Mopar collectors have them stuffed away somewhere. Thanks for the info.

Green with a white top would be a nice combo. Here's a painted top Satellite I picked up last year. Y2 body with an F8 top.

Yes, that's the one and the sellers name was Vinny. The other one was a RM21 383 4-spd 3.91 car and super clean rust-free. It was around $25k and did not sell at the time. I loved the combo, but my buddies said it looked too much like a cop car

I just don't remember seeing these 2 tone paint cars back in 69. Either they didn't have any in Indiana or I was drunk most of the time, those were my stupid days!

I like looking at cop cars, from the outside only please. I've got over $25K in mine right now, not including the cost of the car, and it hasn't been to the body shop yet where I'll spend another $25K-$30K. Yikes, I'm in trouble.

As long as you realize you'll never sell it at a profit you'll be ok .

Yes, it was Vinny's. I wish I could own it.

In addition, Vinny was a VERY nice guy - more hobbyists should be like him.

I know a guru with the mopar collector market and he thinks the car should bring $65K +/- in a good market because of it's rarity and the fact it's a numbers matching car with build sheet and tag. We'll see what happens when the market turns around. Think we can get some of our government stimulus money injected into our hobby? Someone please call Washington.

I've got over $25K in mine right now, not including the cost of the car, and it hasn't been to the body shop yet where I'll spend another $25K-$30K. Yikes, I'm in trouble.

As long as you realize you'll never sell it at a profit you'll be ok .

I know a guru with the mopar collector market and he thinks the car should bring $65K +/- in a good market because of it's rarity and the fact it's a numbers matching car with build sheet and tag. We'll see what happens when the market turns around. Think we can get some of our government stimulus money injected into our hobby? Someone please call Washington.

and you believe that story?

They only built 656 because there was not 657 people that wanted one. Some times things are in low numbers for a reason.

my 71 was originally B5/W3 2 toned...i think the 2 tone paint is cool, but only in certain combinations...a little different look than having a vinyl top.

I believe and trust very few people but stranger things have happened. If you told someone in 2000 that Hemi Cuda's would be selling at $3,000,000 plus in 2003/2004, they would have laughed you off the planet. So what will my car be worth next year? Whatever someone is willing to pay for it. Or I could have a white elephant but at least it will be a cool white elephant.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I always find it helpful when fellow hobbyist look for the negatives.

As with anything, it depends on what a buyer is looking for. I have a Hemi car and if I had the $$$ I wouldn't be in the market for another.

By the way...I love your white socks and pegged pants. Did you have a pack of Lucky Strikes rolled up in your shirt sleeve? Boy do I remember those days, glad they are behind me.

I forgot about those White Hat Specials so I googled Chrysler White Hat Special and found some old t.v. ads on Utube, pretty neat. Although the white hat special was referred to as either a white or black vinyl top in one commercial. Anyway it brought back some fond memories and isn't this why we restore these old classic muscle cars.....so we can be 18 years old again? I have to get older but I don't have to grow up!

[quote The car is going to look strange as it came with full wheel covers.

My '70 N96 383 console auto Bee did too. I have the window sticker somewhere. Don't have the car

So how do you explain Hemi production figures? I just don't buy that line of thinking.

I do think the owner of this car is being optimistic of its value. Most people wouldn't spend more for a V02 car. There is more value in other options like 3.91 gears or AC or Air Grabber and so forth. However, I do salute the owner for wanting to restore it back to spec, including the wheel covers!
