No opinion on muff selection but I would include large dia mandrel bent pipes, an X pipe and resonators of some sort in the tailpipes by the leaf springs

Not a fan of chambered mufflers. Do you really want the flow battling itself to find a way out?
I don't.
Magnaflows have a tame, but deep, idle and bark real nice under heavy throttle. I run them now, and would buy them again in a heartbeat.

About a year ago I read a SAE article on high performance exhaust design. It was very technical with a lot of considerations on how to size and place the muffler and pipes to create a system that has no loss compared to open headers.

The two things I took from this article is that all performance mufflers sized properly flow more than than the engine generates and that it is easier to design a no loss system with chambered mufflers than it is with straight thru mufflers like the magnaflow or ultra flo.

After that article I just tell people to pick what sounds good to them.

Most performance mufflers flow over 500 CFM. My exhaust guy tried open, H pipe, and X pipe on his race car. Not sure what mufflers he used but all three had almost the same ET.

I want my fair share

For the 440 in my Jensen I went with Flowmaster 50s AND Dynomax Bullets. I use the Dynomaxs as resonators....

I don't care about flow i want a good sound out the exhaust with little sound in the cab. And a good sound at idol.

Go with the magnaflow you won't regret it. I installed them after I ditched my flowmasters. Nice and quiet (compared to flowmasters) in the car when crusing. When you nail it they sure wake up.

I had a couple in car videos on putfile but they shut down. I need to find them again and find a new host.

Stay away from Flowmasters if you don't like the interior drone.

There are some good articles on this subject on the web. Vizards article is popular, although hard to follow at times. Anyway, its pretty well established of the 3 types of mufflers (chambered, turbo, stright through), that the straight through muffs are the only ones that flow as much or close to an open pipe. I also think people typically over pipe their systems, which make unecessary noise. Remember, 2.5" is good for 500hp. How many have less than that and run 3"?

My motorhome runs two 3" Flowmaster 50 series and has absolutely NO drone whatsoever. It depends HOW you install your exhaust and components and which Flowmasters you use.

Flow masters on a big block Mopar sound like doggie doo. Just sounds like a car with a bad ehaust system. I hate the sound of flowmasters. I'd go with the magnaflows or stock Hemi style mufflers.

My Flowmasters on my motorhome would be soooo far out in front of your car you wouldn't have to listen to them anyways....

Dynomax Super Hemi Turbos. I have them on my Barracuda. Nice tone at idle/cruise, quite audible at WOT. Its nice to hear that quad roaring at 7,000rpm!

I agree, (dis)functional minds do think alike.

I'm actually going mandrel bent pipes into an X pipe and then into two mufflers with resonators at the rear leaf springs on my Interceptor. I have a feeling there will be very little to no drone, I want a "quieter" ride than usual...

I have a warmed over 360 in my motorhome, .485" lift hydraulic roller, ported 2.02s, 1 3/4" headers, M1 intake etc...
I have the headers feeding a Y pipe, and what is basically two 3" Flowmaster 50 series in tandem in a single exhaust.
I absolutely LOVE it.

I've heard cars with glasspacks for resonators behind a regular exhaust with mufflers, it sounded GOOD. I couldn't believe it myself.
I'll try it, if it doesn't sound any good I'll swap it out, but I think it should be decent from many cars I have already heard...

that'll probably be my choice, some with the louvers punchedtoward the outside as to not restrict flow and no necked down connectors at the ends

I run the 3" Dyno-Max Ultra-Flows and I like them. They are not way to loud but when I hit it they sound almost like open headers. I always race my 63 capped up and it feels good with the straight thru Ulta-Flows. One day I may uncap it but I really don't think it will be much if any faster. I actually went with the Ultra-Flows for the best performance rather then how they sound as I knew this lazy old man was not going to crawl under my car at the track and uncap it. Ron
