Pulled the switch tonight and the whole knob with the shaft attached came right out. Put it back in and there is no feel of the indents for running light and headlights AND I have no lights. Any way to fix this without buying another?

reach under & grab the nub & wiggle it & pull it out a bit, it might be slightly hung up

Reach under the dash? Right now I can easily slide the Knob and shaft back in the switch and it goes all the way down to the OFF position. I will look at this ASAP but as of now I have to take my other car and drive about 5 hours... After getting less than 4 hours sleep... I will be checking here for more replys while I'm away. So any other thoughts...let me know

I think Robert was trying to say that on the backside of that headlight switch (behind the dash pannel or under the dash) there is a spring loaded button. Fiddle around with it and try to insert the whole rod again. To remove that rod, you must push in the button, so maybe it got stuck. They arent that expensive to replace, and any parts store should have them. Any ?'s just PM me.

Replaced it. Took the old one apart. It was broken internally.
I guess 40 year old plastic gets brittle.

Thanks
