I was installing my 22" rad and shroud and I see that the fan is hitting the fan shroud so I must have the wrong fan. I have the 216 fan but is the correct one the 224 ??? Is the 224 fan smaller ??? Should I have a spacer and not a fan cluch ?? The car was apart when I got it and I think I have the wrong fan setup....

Yup. 224 fan with spacer is the ticket with a 22" rad. You must have an automatic with 8 and 3/4 rear end in your car. My 70 cuda conv. is the same.

Well, the only way you could get that 22" rad is with an automatic and non optional rear end. If you had a four speed or an optional rear end, either of those would upgrade the cooling to a 26" rad. Frankly, it would be dumb to try and cool your now upgraded car with the smaller rad. I believe your only real option is the 26" with clutch.

Well, yes I already knew that the 22in was standard size unless you got the 3.55/391 (a36) but the orig owner of this car must of wanted a cruzer with a 3.23 open rear and whitwall tires on a orig 440/6 car. BTW , a 22in rad with a modern HIGH EFFICENCY core and a good water pump (edelbrock/ milidon ) will cool a 528 Hemi without a problem and at some point in time ,I may want to sell this car with its orig auto/3.23 combo and orig rad . Remember, a 71 440/6pack Challenger (numb match and citron yellow ) is a VERY rare car.
