What do you guys think is acceptable leakage when running a leak down test?

I've also had people tell me its fine to do it cold. Im not so sure I believe that. Whats the general opinion on that?

Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat
Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

Depends on what the car was built for. Street is
much different than track. I'd do it warm. If I
remember correctly, I think the cutoff point for
street max was 12% variation.

From what I can remember, it was a woopping 20% for street engines.

No kidding, wow I didn't think it was that much.

Then again, I have only done a couple of these so I
am far from an expert.

I'm sure things have changed, but I believe that was a Ford spec from around 1979 80. Max acceptable varation between cylinders. You basically have to decide what is acceptable for you and your intended use. There really is no "correct" #.

Anything beyond 15% to me is suspect, unless it's a high milage engine. Fresh engine with std type rings seated on the right bore finish will be between 5-8%, zero gap or gapless type rings should be less than 3%. Is that the 383?

Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
