How neccesary are fan shrouds?

Mild 440 with A/C, a new (aftermarket) 4 row brass radiator and a new (aftermarket) flex-fan. The thermostat is a 165. Am I asking for trouble if I don't put a shroud on it? And... did anyone fabricate their own? Any pics or info would be great.

hi
I would shroud it I have a stock shroud for sale if you want it. It has plastic repairs, so I'll sell for like $25+shipping. It's for a B- or C- body radiator with a 22" core.

Here in the valley, you'll want a shroud... I've made a couple, started with cardboard to get a pattern, eventually made one out of steel & the other out of aluminum.. But if your using a brass 26" radiator why not ust a stock type shoud, they are still available..

Most of the vendors carry it, Try Bill Alpin, or Mopar Ed.. or Ebay

Great!! Thanks a lot Randy. BTW, the Super Bee is running. And running real strong! Those new Stealth heads probably have a lot to do with it. Thank you for steering me in that direction.

I would (highly) suggest using a 180(or higher) stat. 165(didnt know they came in that temp) is not hot enough to properly atomize your fuel mixture.

you may or may not be ok with out one but why chance it. if you can't find an original one make one.

here are pics of the one djvcuda made for me. it helped out quite a bit.
