So I picked up an MSD 6AL off craigslist, turns out some punk was running it on his honda.

as I printed out the manual for it and started reading, I see where it says to operate on a 6cyl, to cut one of the wires internal to it, and if it's a 4 cyl, to cut both (the red/blue wires inside)

assuming the kid did that (I haven't checked it yet) and both wires are cut...can the box be opened back up to repair the wires to use on a 8cyl? or should I send it back to MSD to do this fix? or should I re-sell it on craigslist to another 4banger runner, and buy a new one?

I'm not sure you can get in the box, and they are short enough that it'd be a real pain to try and hook them back together without disassembling the box.

I'd call msd and say you accidently cut both instead of one and how to fix it? They just may be more helpful than if you said you bought it off craigslist and want it to work, ya know?

Thanks goody,

I just looked at the box today, and they are indeed, both cut. but, the way he cut it, it looks like I should at least be able to dribble some soder on the wires and get them back together easy enough. its sandwiched between plastic, so I shouldn't have to worry about shorting out against the case or anything.

Heck yes I would do it. What do you have to lose, as long as the solder job is good and not weak you should have no troubles.

You might be able to pull a little bit of wire length out of the MSD box if you try to solder the wires back together. I successfully did this on another MSD product. Use discretion of course.

Pretty much my thought...picked up this used box for $100. he was asking $150, but my craigs list negotiation skills took over and I got him down to $100.

so, I'm into it for $100, and if the box is fried and the guy thought he would rip me off for $100...then I guess he won! If it is fried, then I'll send it to MSD and hope the repair is less than $100, because for $200, I could get a new box
