I have two big blocks cranks in my possession, both for a 383. How can I tell if either or neither is a forged and not a cast crank?

Very easy...

Cast have a narrow parting line and forged have a wide one, on the crank throws.

Basically like this pic. Cast on the left.

Tap it with a hammer, if it rings, its forged...if doesn't (just goes clunk), its cast.

drop it from about 2 stories high onto some hard surface like a concrete floor.

If it shatters its cast. if it just bends or gets dented its forged.

In all honesty, I think the forged one will dent the concrete.

Get the scoop in the mail.

71 383 2 bbls were cast crank. I owned one last year. It was the only big block I've seen that I thought was completely useless.

Or the DC manual with flywheel weighting for a cast crank 383...

Cast crank 2bbl 383 w/auto trans replacement crankshaft
Part number 3462922

From the 70-71 parts book.

Can I get a scoop for the info?
