ive got a holley 2210 2bbl on a 318 in my fifth avenue. i had it on before and when i would hit the throttle it would cut out and if it was under load like at a red light it would stall. i rebuilt the carb and it still cuts out but doesnt stall out like before. the accelerator pump is adjustable and i was wondering if i should adjust it for more fuel or if its something else?

the initial timing is at 7* total mechanical is at 17* and the total with vaccum is at 30. i dont know what the vaccum is but there are no leaks anywhere. it idles and cruises fine though.

to answer if you have ported or manifold vacuum to the dist see if you have vac to the dist at idle. Your timing is off, it should be very close to 35 total(w vac adv DISCONNECTED) at the point where it stops advancing even if that is 3500 or more then see where that puts your initial at,going the other way you might bump your initial up to 10 or 12 for a start & see how it acts & what that puts your total at(again w no vac adv hooked up). then reconnect your vac adv & take her out.

thats ported vacuum & my thought was that if it was manifold vacuum that it could be loosing enough(of the dist vac adv) when you cracked the throttle & that could be killing it but not the case here. Unless there's a vacuum leak I'd continue to suspect the carb but I am out of ideas . Your timing is VERY slow & I would keep it at the std SB baseline which is ~35 total(vac adv unhooked) with a reasonable initial ~10btdc or so. As long as your not pinging & it cranks Ok your timing isn't too far advanced(w your new settings) but back to original problem...

ive tried adjusting the level of the accelerator pump and it did nothing. i do have it on a 4bbl intake though but i know someone else who has a 2bbl on a 4bbl intake and has no problem with it.

check your idle speed set to spec, your idle mixture setting, your choke adjustment and your float level setting.

lean burn has been gone for a long time now. since scrap was so high last year you cant find anything with old 4bbls on it unless you want to buy a whole car. which i dont have the space or money for. i do get 21 to the gallon on the highway with this carb on it though and still has a lot more power than the carter2bbl and the old iron manifold. except i cant do burnouts anymore.

when i rebuilt it i checked everything for any warpage. everything was fine on the carb and all internal ports were clear. i do enjoy the gas milage though. with the lean burn and carter 2bbl i was getting 7-9mpg

like I said...hickabilly a early chevy q-jet by tac welding the mopar throttle lever on to it got a new reman one for a chivy truck fer 120$ should be able to find a chivy in a jy,IMO I am with RR... what did we miss?,,,try another known good carb I can send you one that needs a throttle lever for it but its a non emisions carb from a 350 inbaord mercruzer I grab em off caddy's,pontiac's,chivy's and look for mid 80s dodge carbs for the lever and KD linkage I just grab the lever and jets/needles out of the dodge ones, swap them into the chivy one and its pretty close on the meetering/jetting for a 318/360 the u-pull it here is full of the 40$ with a 10$ core charge keep looking

i finally got ahold of someone at holley and they told me they can only help with problems with new carbs. looks like ill be saving up for the 500cfm eddy then instead of a new holley. worst people ive ever dealt with on the phone. they never replied to 3 emails either

could it possibly be there is too much vaccum at idle and when i hit the throttle the sudden change in pressure makes it stall out.

That wouldn't be it in fact the more vacuum the better. I would put in a fresh set of plugs & try it again & when you barely move the throttle you get a squirt? and a substantial quantity/duration of the squirt?

i did put brand new plugs in it. the squirt starts as soon as the throttle starts to move. ive played with the duration a bit but still no help. the fuel is squirting into the carb when it does it. when you do it for about a second or so it doesnt even fire or anything. it just stops for up to a second. if i go VERY slow with the throttle its ok. its weird though because its not a little after you open up the throttle its as soon as you pull it back it just cuts out. i took it to a local mechanic and he was completely stumped.

tried capping off the vac advance. didnt help. put the idle screws at the richest it would run. didnt help. adjusted the acc. pump for the longest duration of squirt. didnt help. still get around 20 to a gallon. waiting on my federal check to come back then i plan on getting a 600cfm holley 4160 but havent heard anything back yet. the junkyards around here dont have andy 4bbls from 318's or 360's with the exception of one thermoquad that needed a complete rebuild with several linkages replaced but they wanted 200 for. i was thinking of ordering a thermoquad from summit but theres so many different ones i dont know which one i need.

yeah i was looking at thermoquads and may just go with a holley 4160 600cfm. about the same price and parts are readily available for it.
