fwiw, I only saw those bent ones in 72-4 challengers that I saw at the junkyard. Also, my spare stud is exactly 6" long so that's strange that this one is longer @ 6.5". Multiple AVL's I guess which would not be uncommon. I thought someone else chimed in earlier that theirs was 6" also. I think we may have a case of spare stud envy going on here?

Eric, if you look at the other post on space saver stuff you'll see that I ended up with the 15" SS without realizing it. It will fit on the 6" stud but just barely. At this point I am just gonna live with it and get another as time permits.

Gentlemen,
Also in conclusion let me ask a question. So if Eric and I both have the 6" or 6.5" stud length then this should ensure that our cars officially did come with 15" rims being either steel or rallye? I don't have my broadcast sheet but I was thinking one of the previous owners did tell me that it had rallye wheels on it when he bought it as the second owner. Is this safe to assume?

So far only js27vob and myself have been secure enough in our studlyness to actually post pictures of our studs with rulers. It may simply be a man thing. It all depends on where you start and where you end your measurement. In this case they were measured from the very bottom to the end of the tip.

You could have a space saver spare with either 14" or 15" wheels, same with the standard spare tire.If you have 15" ralleys then use them. They fill in the wheel well better anyway and look better too.

K5Cuda I figured by now you would have learned that nothing can be assumed when it comes to a 36 year old car. Without a broadcast sheet and a new fender tag, your car can have any option you want.

A broadcast sheet can be either a blessing or a curse. If it says your car had every available option and the car is all there, then it is a blessing. If you bought it as a rolling shell and now you have to pay top dollar for all those options, then it is a curse.

BTW - I assumed that I had the correct stud for my car, until I found out through this thread that I didn't. The stud I displayed, 9 1/2" was in the trunk of my 70 Cuda. I have the broadcast sheet for my car and it was coded for a spacesaver spare. Now I can assume that sometime in it's dimly lit past, one of the previous owners got rid of the spacesaver and decided to put in a full size spare and the longer stud was needed.

Tha build sheet calls out the wheels and separatley the spare, so you could have ordered what ever you wanted, full size ot the space saver in 70 Cudas. as i know my build sheet has them listed separatley.
so the size of the rod does not ensure which wheels came on the car. and the 70s should be BF goodrich tire not good year.

I don't know if this adds anything or not but my 6 barrel 'Cuda came from the factory with 14" rallyes and a full size 14" spare. The rod measures just over 10" long and is the original as told by all the previous owners. It does have a slight bend towards the bottom where it bolts to the bracket. Shakerjoe, how have you been?
